I have to give up sugar for medical reasons. I haven't had any in a two weeks. I also haven't had any sugar substitutes because they actually make me want sweets. How much longer will my body crave sugar?

I had to stop eating sugar too and it sucks. It took me about a week to stop craving it, especially in my coffee. But it's true that you really do get used to not having certain things when you cut them out of your diet. I stopped drinking sodas and using salt in my foods. Although it took a while, I don't miss it anymore. Just fight the cravings and you'll be all right pretty soon.

I think it wears off but doesn't go away at about 3-4 weeks (some people say 6 weeks)

Ask your Dr if you can have multi vitamins. A deficiency of chromium makes us want sweets. Are you eating any other refined carbohydrate - these tend to make me want to have sweets.

My Dr also said try cutting a lemon and having that straight after eating.

Dr Atkins' Health Revolution discusses craving for sweets and what to do about it. It most often has to do with chronic hypoglycemia. See the book for details. There is a lot of info and good advice there.
Good luck!

If you have gotten rid of sugar for 2 whole weeks, your cravings should be gone. Just try giving it a couple more days. Good luck!
