I have been to Wigan to watch St Helens v Wigan in the Rugby League, it was a good match and we beat Wigan, though I can't remember the score, it was a long time ago, nice people too, very much like St Helens supporters, quite friendly when you talk to them on a 1-1 basis!

Wigan is quite large. Are you talking about the centre, for shopping or for a night out?
If shopping then it's not better than any other town centre, if nightlife then it depends what you want. There is one street with all the bars on which is handy if you can't be bothered traipsing all over the place, got places like Walkabout, Flares and Dali Bar. For a day out you've got Wigan Pier, good for the kids, or Wigan Pier night club which is a bit "white gloves and glow sticks". There is a JJB Stadium near to the centre and a big Multiplex cinema. If you live far away from Wigan I wouldn't bother, but it can be a good night out if you're not that far away.

Wigan Pier is brilliant. I went on first date with my husband there 16 yrs ago. It's like an industrial theme park.

Canal area very interesting - warm friendly people - pubs with great beer - and a great market - fabulous if you like tasty meat pies (a Wigan speciality).

Try it !!

Visited May Mill there one time before it was demolished. Found the people friendly and down to earth. The Mill was really atmospheric with floor boards that echoed as you walked around the empty factory halls. The old boiler in the basement was also huge with ashes still in the grate. Also the view from the top of the fire escape stares at the side of the Mill was impressive, especially as it was winter and snow dusted the hills surrounding the place.

There are some wonderful five star hotels there and the night life is terrific. Plenty of gourmet restaurants, casinos and nightclubs.
