Wanting to know how many vets (Iraqi, Vietnam, doesn't matter) have taken their lives because of PTSD. We lost our beloved Josh and would like to know (since we can't find a number anywhere, nor can we get anyone to tell us) how many others are out there.

I am sorry to hear about Josh and I think you're in for a shock, until "Desert Storm" and the wave of accompanying Patriotism the VA would hardly admit that PTSD was a real problem. The patriotism forced the door open and took the changes in attitude public. I even saw a difference in the counselors with the DAV. Here are two web sites where you might be able to write and get that information, if they are reluctant to provide it submit a "Freedom of Information Act" (FOIA). Here are a couple of sites which deal with family counseling and support over PTSD.

I don't think you will find a number. It's not like people wrote on their suicide note that they did it because of PTSD. In general the rate of PTSD is covered up, because it would make the military look bad, and they can't afford to treat it anyway for everyone.

But maybe I am wrong. But if you do find a number, it is probably not accurate.
