Islam circumcise the girls by cutting off the labia minora and majora and sawing the female organ leaving only a bit of a hole for urination. I think that this is HORRIBLY TERRIBLE!

Hey, Marissa! You sound so defensive. I agree that plastic surgery is horribly terrible but it's anyway voluntary. I hope that circumcision is too.

This is related to culture, not Islam. Many people in West Africa, most who are not Muslim, engage in this horrible butchery of girls and women. It also causes a lifetime of health problems and complications during childbirth.

I think it is the following:
1. Barbaric: the procedure is often done without anesthetics, without proper sanitation. Hence leaving the girl with a higher risk of gangrene or even death. Hate to be crude, after the procedure, anything can fly into the girl.
2. Chauvinistic: the procedure is done to insure the "purity" of the girl for her future husband.
3. Asinine: God made girls to be that way; who are humans to change it?
4. Outdated: hopefully legislation can change this barbaric practice.
5. Disgusting: girls as young as five are often times held down by women(which makes it worse) and they bleed out all the way up to their necks.
Note well: This "custom" is also practiced in many African cultures.

It's a cultural phenomenon. I noticed you didn't get your knickers in a twist over male circumcision here. Why? Because it's acceptable in most modern cultures.
Deforming a baby is deforming a baby no matter what sex it is. Don't you think it's a little hypocritical to be okay with one, but not the other?
Now, there are positive health reasons to circumcise a male child. Does that make it acceptable to mutilate one visa-vi circumcision? No! The process is just as reprehensable. In circumcising a male, you effectively reduce his ability to enjoy sex, eliminate natural lubricants for intercourse in the form of smegma, and expose remaining nerve endings in the head of the penis to constant stimulation, risking "performance" problems earlier than non-circumcised males.
If you accept one, you must accept the other.

I have read about this in Dolly magazine once. An African girl was forced to be circumcised by her grandmother when she was a child. I think it is a terrible shame that people still do this today and have no knowledge of health problems that can occur after it.

Anyone who practices this for whatever reason and its not primarily a muslim practice, should be locked up. There is no reason for it on either sex. Its abuse plain and simple. If you cut off your childs hand you would be sent to prision even if you had gone to another country to do it and then returned. How come then it is seen as ok to remove innocent children to another country, mutilate them and then return them, expecting to receive no punishment. Life imprisonment is the only way to stop this barbaric custom.

well i am not circumcised and i am a muslim. neither is anyone circumcised in my family or my husband's family for generations and generations. but we all are muslims.
btw, does body reconstruction, tummy tucks and breast reconstruction HORRIBLY TERRIBLE? i mean cutting away ur body just to make a man happy who eventually might leave her crying is HORRIBLY TERRIBLE, isnt it?.
EDIT: no sugar, i am not defensive. i just felt how women in all religions and traditions are forced to go through due to sheer male dogma. i mean it is mostly a woman who is made to sacrifice -- willingly or unwillingly. i think we women as such should stand up against all of these and put a stop to it. i think its time for us women to say -- NO to such acts.

I think you are correct, itsa barbaric form of torture to cause women as much pain as possible duringsex and childbirth. luckily, its just the ignorant tribes who do this, not the majority of islam.

im not sure this is an islamic practice-- but i know there are african tribes that practice it ... ANYONE// who would do such a horrible thing to a woman --should have it done to them....
