M.O.D (Ministry of Defence) is there to serve one purpose.....

It is there to DEFEND itself from other Ministerial Departments.

It says what it is and does on the tin, of course.

Many (many) UK soldiers 'supply both much of their own kit,' and when on leave, they take back 'orders from other blokes in their units by visiting Army Surplus Stores.' And now, having been wounded (according the the UK press), some military personnel have paid for their own surgical procedures > instead of having to wait on the general NHS waiting lists. <

The Government shut down most (if not all) the Military hospitals and turned over all none battlefield treatments to the NHS.

This is 'not good.' All military personal (not those requiring Emergency Procedures) have to get into the NHS Line and wait their turn now.

We used to have a military medical service(s) which were pretty damned good. Not any more we don't. One Military Hospital bulding on the Embankment in London, is (still looks the same from the outside) is now a part of the Tate Gallery.

I completely agree with you,as an ex-serviceman It is disgusting the way we have been treated.
We feel that this country (UK) just look upon those who risked their lives fighting other peoples battles as second class citizens and as for offending anyone because of a uniform is pathetic,I was "advised" that it would not be "diplomatic" to wear my uniform in public and I could not understand why I could not wear something I was proud of.
I had to leave the services because of an injury I received on active service and was not given a choice, which really annoyed me and I have not received any support or help from any Government department except a piece of metal they call a medal, which I did not want.
Its about time people here in the UK,supported our troops a lot more,in particular the Government.
I have not heard of any ex-forces personnel having to pay for medical care though.

For the removing the uniform part, you only have to read some of the Q&As on here. Last week a question was posted "To join the Army do you have to be Mentally retarded or Psychopathic" It was removed but not before about 20 people agreed. So apparently it seems protecting your country and doing the job nobody else wants now ranks as lower than a traffic warden. So apparently there's no such thing as wearing your uniform with pride anymore. To much chance it'll upset the do- gooders.
As for the medically discharged thrown on the scrapheap, come on you don't really expect our government to care once they have no use for them anymore do you???

And could somebody please tell me where Irak is???

Not everone's forgotten about you Zulu9...

David B - thanks for the e-mail..

Candi K- why come on here just to show your ignorance.. Who else is going to protect half wits like you. Do you think if we didn't have an army other countries would just leave us alone. Go back to living in your bubble...

It will cahnge when politicians are required to spend time on the front line alongside troops or working in feild hosiptals to see what the decsion to go to war really means.

I am all for our countrys need to defend itself but last time I looked nobody was at the coast of Calais trying to cross and if a sovereign state did we would nuke them so that leaves terrorists.

If we spent the money within these shores and have our troops based here defending this country they would be able to fight terrorism where we care about it here in the UK.

It was tragic that the twin towers was bombed and the perpatrators should be hunted down and exterminated but killing innocent men women and children does not make sense.

The intelligence service know who these people are they know where they are and supposidly we are working with the soverign states ( afghanistan) to bring them to justice so why do we have troops on the ground why dont we just invest in the intelligence bit give them te info and let them do the dirty work.

As for Iraq yes it was tragic that Saddam killed his own people but we went to war on the basis of WMD not getting Saddam.

So why are we still there?

Saddam is gone

No WMD and a new governemnt.

If it all goes wrong and descends into civil war guess what a dictator will be propped up by the west to install disciplne. ( sound familiar) and the cycle will start again.

Our boys have fulfilled a mission they were not sent to do ( get rid of Saddam) they are staying to fulfill a mission they were not sent to do ( be a police force for a foreign govt)

We should treat them like heros bring them home and throw all the medical and social resources at them and spend the money on them rather than more bombs bulletts and body bags in the next3 months to 3 years!!

The British armed forces and by extension the government have always treated soldiers returning, wounded or not, poorly. Its a job requirement. Don't think about maiming or disfigurement, just sign here.

This an end product to the civilian apathy and general antipathy of the great british politicians tothe military .If a government wants to make savings to fund a pet project the first place they look is the defence budget.

I couldn't agree more.....

The shame of having injured soldiers on general medical wards is unbearable. The Americans are horrified!

I do hope they will do something before someone walks in off the street again to harass them. It is not fair on the soldiers to be treated by the NHS and not fair on the NS either for that matter.

I'm fed up with changing my ways 'just in case I offend someone' nobody cares about offending me... Burkas offend me, female circumcision offends me, arranged marriages offend me... but I'm told to shut up and carry on.

I'm fed up... anyone else?

I am willing to sit in a desert if BDUs sweating in the ungodly heat. Because what I am doing makes me happy, I am happier than I've been in several years. Emma, this job is VOLUNTARY, there is no draft, there is nothing forcing people to sign up for years of their life. Why do they still have a military then? They do it because they want to. Same like us. They want to make a difference to someone. It's a tough life and civilians don't make it any easier...we get a lot of **** for being young, naive, and ignorant. But we do this job, because you aren't willing enough to. I serve my country like my father, grandfather, and great-grandfather have...I hope I do their names honor and justice...the US at least takes care of it's troops...and I know a lot of Iraqis who are happy we took the dictator out of power...so don't tell me this war doesn't involve us. Some people don't listen to reason, and that's when we go in.

For those that say "good", its not the common soldier who decided to invade Iraq, its was a political decision. Our soldiers are brave and highly trained, they deserve more than this.
