No, this is the normal pigment of some cat's gums. I have 6 cats and I have 2 with black gums, 3 with pink gums, and one with gray gums. It's perfectly normal.

no it just depends on the cat. its inherated. some have pink gums some have black. nothing to worry about. =] i have 5 cats, 2 with pink gums and 3 with black.

that could just be pigment... my cat Kaffe has these black spots in his gums that are just pigmentation (kinda like freckles). If your cat is eating OK, not drooling, not depressed then you shouldn't worry - especially if the cat had black gums ever since you can remember - that's only part of his coloring.

best way to find out, is to look up the breed of cat to see if this is normal for the breed. Kinda like Siamese are prone to becoming cross-eyed, squished face Persians are prone to eye infections, and chows (yes chows as in the dogs) are prone to having a black tongue. could be something as simple as a birth mark for your furry friend, like some cats have 6 toes.
