I'll share my reason. Many years ago my grandmother explained to me that many people in this country do nothing more than complain about things with no sincere intent on (desire to) changing them, and poorly understand things that go on in their own neighborhoods. I am not one to sit back and complain about things, I am one to come forward with a plan to change the wrongs in society, so I decided to become a police officer.

Well... you got to have a high level of testosterone. Be a real man, and solve conflicts abusing others and violating civil rights.

You can't have a very high IQ, otherwise you will not be hired in most states.

You have to be a team player. If your buddy breaks the law, you do your best to cover up, and keep his image clean. He'll return the favor sometime.

...And you have to have big dreams for your bank account. You'll make a hefty salary, get chunky increases and promotions, be able to put in all the overtime you want, and still look sharp in your service photograph.

Still interested? Start practicing that John Wayne walk, to show off your gun in the ghettos, and look hot.

I first served in the Army and overseas in Iraq.

I then decided that I wanted to become a police officer.

Honestly, I will be straight forward with you...

I am a cop because I like helping people, as corny as it may sound--those mentally ill people are still people too...not saying I ever let my guard down...but they need help. And you know what, cops are human just like you and yes they may get aggravated with people, but they just might save a child's life in a domestic violence situation...so there ya go. Its a humbling job, and just helping one person out sometimes makes it worth all the bull****.

I loved serving my country and I love serving the public and my community...trust me there are downfalls, but the pros outweigh the cons.

A sense of public duty. A bit like a politician, but with honesty and less money.

And it's dangerous too.

What nobler calling can you have today? You're laying your own life on the line to protect our freedom. I don't know who said this, "Greater love hath no man to lay down his life for his brother." That's the reason, A noble cause.
