Parents of the boy & girl do have THE resposibility and you also must make a responsible decision. There's no gurantee for the success of love or arranged marriages. My marriage is arranged and we're quite happy with each other.
In love marriage, you already know your spouse since long time. In arranged marriage, everyday is a learning experience and that's quite interesting. You learn more about yourself too.
Talk to your folks about your marriage plans. The wedding not only includes which person you're going to marry, but also various other aspects that you may not be aware of. If you're a Christian, attend a marriage semiar or counselling class in church.
You're not only marrying one particular person, but 2 families are going to get joined together. So parents of either side must have a say in this matter and it's upto you to accept or reject their opinions.
In the end, it's going to be just you and your parents. You will always be their baby, no matter how old you get! Get their blessings.

I believe they have a responsibility to look out for their children and provide some input as if they like the person they chose or not or if they forsee a huge problem with that person in the future. Otherwise its really up to the child they can take the input from the family and do with it what they like. After all it does help if you family likes the person.

I wouldn't want my parents to select someone for me without my input but I do want their approval in who I pick because I love and respect them and I know that they want the best for me.

I think that it is their responsability to give advice to their children and tell them if he/she is not suitable for them, but it is the children's decision in the end and they should not impose or choose their husband or wife.
