You have to go to school to become an LPN first. Then go for your RN. Look up in yahoo local and do a search for Nursing schools in your area. It takes about 4 years total and u should really look into this before commiting to wanting to be an RN. Its tough work and rough hours.

You can become a registered nurse through a community college. You can even get a degree as a nurse if you attend a univeristy. There are severe impactions in nursing right now, but you need to check with the community college you want to attend, see if they offer nursing and find out how you can start the program. It takes a lot of persistance and research on your part because nursing is in high demand so everyone is trying to get in.
Registered nurses can do a lot in the medical field. You are in charge if admitting patients and discharging them, giving meds. , dressing changes, assisting in procedures. You will have an assistant nurse who will change the bed linens for you and usually cleans up any "messes" the patient makes. However, you are responsible for this work as well. A nurse's job varies depending on your interest. However, it's a demanding job so make sure you want to do it before you get into it.

You should not have to become a LPN before you become RN..It take four years of college. You always have to take classes once you are a RN in order to keep your license up to date. This must be down every year. A registered nurse can be a DON in nursing homes or hospital. They do a lot of paper work, give shots, make sure that medicine orders are right, take blood, put cather( pea bag) in, IV in. As far what the best school it all depend on where you live. I hope this help.

Any school connected with a medical teaching center, or better yet, get a BS 4 yr program at numerous universities, then u take a state board of exam and if u pass it u become a registered nurse with a license to practice. Field is wide open to nursing....school nurse. industrial nurse home health care, mental health field, general hospital, on and on. Stressful, but very good potentials from sign on bonus to great pay range Need for nurses is acute at this time. Good luck

okay, people are retarded. You don't have to get your LPN first. You can go directly to college for your RN. There are also some diploma schools that offer an RN without giving you a degree. The only one that I am aware of is Arnot school of Nursing in Elmira, NY. It's through Arnot Ogden Hospital. But you can also get your RN with an associates degree like I have. A third option is going directly to get your bachelor's degree to become an RN. RN's have to go through an accredited nursing program and pass the state boards to become a registered nurse. I do believe there are a couple states that require you to get your bachelor's degree though. And I know Canada requires a bachelor's degree. Type in Nursing Schools on Google and check out what schools are near you.

a registered nurse is someone who has gotten their associates degree in nursing. it's a two year college degree. the prerequisites take about two years to complete and then the nursing program itself is about 16-18 months.

registered nurses are responsible for total patient care in a hospital, nursing home or home health setting. they administer medications by mouth or iv, do dressing changes, monitor vital signs, and notify the doctor of any changes in their patient.

you don't have to get your lpn before becoming an rn-taking the RN program straight through is your best bet. check with your local colleges to find out what classes to take in order to start the nursing program. once those required classes are completed-check around to several different colleges-most of them have waitlists b/c the demand for nurses is so high right now that alot of people try to get into the field.

word of advise-nursing is not a field to go into for the money. it requires an enormous amount of patience, dedication, and flexibility. you will work long hours (12 hours shifts mostly but i've worked several 16 hours shifts and sometimes more than 4 in a week)

your patients are angry, sad, hurting and overall sick-so expect some patients to yell, cuss, kick, hit, spit and do any other possible horrible thing to lash out at you b/c you are the one that is with them most of their stay in the hospital. but on the flip side-you have several patients that are grateful for your care and have wonderful personalities-they are the ones that make the job so worthwhile.

overall the pay is great-but trust me you earn it baby!!, your patients make you feel needed and special, you get to hold your head up high knowing you've helped make someone better or saved someone's life today, and no matter where you go-you'll always have a job...

good luck!!

The first answer is completely wrong. Why would someone speak on something they know so little about. You can go to school and become an RN without becoming an LVN or LPN first. Schools in CA are very impacted and almost impossible to get into. You can do it in 3 years , the prerequisites are tough and can take years, they only took me 1.5 though. I am now applying to nursing programs, all of which take about 2 years.
