Why would i be offended -My granny would say it to me all the time. people say bless you all the time when i sneeze? They are wishing me well, whats not to like.

IF on the other hand they said God bless you cause you are doomed to burn in hell for eternity, then i would be offended.

I am not an Athiest, but I still get weirded out when someone says "God bless you" or just "Bless you" when I sneeze.

i do not take offense to this because they do not know me and my beliefs or lack there of. i also know the origins of the tradition of telling people "god bless you" when they sneeze. superstitious people used to believe when you sneezed your soul was trying to escape, and by blessing you they forced the soul back in.

so when someone blesses me for sneezing i simply smile and thank them, and softly laugh inside.

I respond with, "And may satan take your immortal soul". Since there is no "god" or "satan", the two statements are equally meaningless.

Some get really pissy and a few become violent. (They lose when they try it.) I tell them that if they don't want to hear the "satan" bit, then don't mention the "god" bit.

Not me, I recognise it has no power, its just a thing christians say, sometimes to be nice, sometimes so as to be arrogant. Doesnt bother me either way.
