If you build a security system someone will work to beat it. Yes, we need to improve security (just like we need tighter border control for our country), but that's no more than a third of the solution. The larger third is working to get rid of conditions that cause violence. Why do kids bring guns / knives to school? Let's figure that out and then change things so that those reasons no longer exist. Finally let's ensure that students who do pose a threat are put in situations where they cannot act on the threat and then are able to get, through legal channels, what they were hoping to accomplish by violence.

We already do in a lot of Schools - all this security is making them look like prisons, I think it's really sad. The day we make owning an automatic gun legal is the day we'll need metal detectors and security staff on the doors of every School. It's so incredibly depressing that America has reached this state of fear and madness. I hope we (the UK) never get as bad as they have become.

It's far less likely to happen here due to different gun laws and a different mentality. I think there are some serious social issues in the US which underpin a lot of these terrible acts and are exacerbated by making guns legally available

Not all schools in America have crazy security. Don't believe everything you see on the news.
