importance of french in corporate world

French used to be regarded as the Diplomatic Language of the world. Whenever people from other countries got together, they would use French to communicate instead of another language. This was due to the cultural expansion of Europe across the world, and the use of a diplomatically 'neutral' language.

But after World War 2 this kinda declined.

Today French is considered the diplomatic language of the 'old world' and may still be useful when meeting with managers of older ages. But few modern business people adopt it, favouring the languages of economic hotspots intead (eg Mandarin, Japanese, Spanish, etc).

Most international businesses use the following method to decide which language should be used to communicate:

If you are travelling to another manager's country, use the language they speak there.

If there is a common language between both managers, use that.

If there is no common language and both managers are in a foreign country, use English or the language of the country they are in.

While it is preferable to speak another language, it is also very acceptable to use one or more translators. This is especially advisable if the topic of conversation is wordy and legally or technologically complex.
