Left is on the left side of the chest. Superior is on the top of the chest in the mediastinum which is behind the big hard bone in the middle of your chest which the ribs attach to on both sides.
If you were wearing a tie, the mediastinum is the area directly behind the tie. Masses are usually big hunks of tissue which are not supposed to be there. Usually describes Lymphomas or lung cancers.
