I told a doctor friend of mine about it and he laughed and thought it was amusing. If I eat a bowl of cereal with milk, or ice cream, I end up with flatulence and sometimes diarrhea like you cannot believe. Does the OTC preps really work for lactose intolerance?
Will the lactose intolerance go away if I continue to use dairy? My doctor friend didnt think so.

I used to work with a general surgeion who told me she believed if I drank milk, my body would start making the enzymes which digest the lactaid in milk. I was not lactose intolerant when I was a baby, I just for whatever reason stopped drinking milk and my body quit making the enzyme which digests milk. I think she thought I would start manufacturing it again.

No it doesnt usually go away, just makes you miserable if you eat it. I am the same way but I have not tried the OTC stuff, my symtoms are nausea and vomiting which usually go away after time. Until I drink it again. Have you tried skim milk? Maybe give the OTC stuff a try and get a new Doctor, this one sounds like an @ss.

Lactose free milk is available. . but I have a question. . Did you become lactose intolerant all of a sudden? Did this happen after having surgery? I had back surgery and for a month I thought they turned my anus into a FLAME THROWER!

It took me a month to find out what the heck was going on. . .I was not a happy camper. The doctor said "It just happens" . . .well I do not believe anything JUST happens without a reason. I use to drink 1 Gallon of milk a day with no gas at all before that surgery, so I have to wonder!!! The pills work, but you have to find out how many you need and that is by trial and error. . Good Luck

Of course it doesn't just go away. Your body can't digest it and so you need to just avoid it. You need to find a milk alternative such as soy milk or milks that are designed for lactose intolerant people. Start trying the new non-dairy alternatives, you might find that you like them better, they certainly will make you feel better.

definite, you for sure are. You get away with in simple terms milk each and every so often probable because you eat different issues with it. Cheese, and likely ice cream, is a lot extra targeted. Taking adequate lactase enzyme can fill in for your lack of lactase production. Milk with it already extra is on the marketplace. if you're Asian descent lactose intolerance in adulthood is well-known for them.

Black coffee and tea for you then. What about soya milk - that is much more available these days.

If you have an intolerance, using diary will only make things worse, I would have thought.
