A wise old vicar said to me:

"What people believe, and what they say they believe, are two different things".

Do you think there is some truth in this?

I like that quote. there is truth in it. the truth is told when one feels it is proper. it depends on the situation, the people and other factors involved. most of the time, i think people tell the truth, and they act out what they believe in and it is usually clear. but sometimes it depends on how someone feels about what they believe in comparison to the majority, so they may lie.

"Wise vicar" is an oxymoron. No doubt he borrowed it from someone else and did not think of it himself.

Of course it's true.

- Mark Foley _wrote_ the US law to prosecute pedophiles and sexual predators. Now look where he is.

- The current Pope Nazinger wrote a secret paper telling cardinals that protecting the catholic cult was more important than protecting the kids.

- The Smirking Chimp, pResident Bu**sh** blabbed about "bringing ethics back to the Whitehouse". Now read this and tell me that's true:

- Evangelical and bastard - oops, baptist - christians talk about "loving everyone", but I don't consider death threats, assault and vandalism to be "love":

The Vicar was shedding some light on his own beliefs.

It depends upon how honest a person is. But usually a persons actions will tell me more about a persons actual beliefs than his words. His re-actions tell me even more than his words or his actions. If a person says he does not think it's wrong to kill people, kill his mother or girlfriend and see how he re-acts. If he says " well it sure is terrible that you killed my mother but I can't blame you because we all know it's OK to kill people", then maybe he really does think it's not wrong to kill people. Something tells me that I don't think that's the way he will re-act. Re-actions tell more than words or actions. I'm not advising anyone to kill another. I'm just using that as an example.

I only tell the truth about my beliefs because I don't ultimately concern myself whether people agree with them or not. I have no one to impress and nothing to hide so no reason to be anything but truthful.

I believe in God, but the day to day things I do change, so I guess my beliefs change. So I guess I have to experience them first in order to tell you the truth about them.

Somewhat truth but people wouldn't have it any other way.

People say what they think they believe. Peoples actions tell you what they truly believe.
