Well to start, a 5MP camera does indeed have about 1 million more pixels than it's counterpart. Truth be told, unless you are going to print 8x10's 24/7 there is no need to upgrade from a 4MP to a 5MP.

If your camera is a Cannon, Nikon, Olympus, Fuji and it's 4MP, then it likely has all the features you would need unless you are looking to advance your skills in photography with access to manual controls. Going from 4MP to 6MP is a little more worthwhile but if you are going to upgrade, consider a 8 or 10MP camera to "future proof" yourself.

A real camera person can tell the difference I guess. I read that to get "studio" quality pics you need at least a 5 pixel camera. I've been using a 3.2 pixel and now I'm looking at a 7.2 pixel camera. Prices are plumb reasonable now.

there is a difference between picture shot with 4-mega pixel and 5-mega pixel digital camera...the 5-mega pixel picture is definitely better.

Not really that much difference...it goes by the pixels on the screen. depending on what you are using it for. you can print easy up to 8 by 10 photos and they will still look just as sharp!

basically, the more pixels, the less grain, the better the image!

5 megapixel is the standard nowadays. I wouldn't go lower than 5. There are so many good/cheap 5 mp cameras out there, why go smaller?

I have a casio exilim z-55, a 5 pegapixel and I love it
