Chihuahuas are prone to certain medical problems. She needs a good physical exam to check her basic health, and specifically for a problem with her intervertebral discs (in her spine...which often causes them to walk 'tucked up' like their midsection hurts), as well as for arthritis in her knees if she has a condition common to this breed (due to indiscriminant breeding) called medial patella luxation. She might also have a bad bellyache/gas/cramping if you feed her people food more than once a month. That's the age we also often start seeing liver, kidney, and pancreatic problems due to a chronic diet of 'people' food. That can only be corrected if caught early enough.

If her skin infection is due to allergies, that can cause sudden yelping...because the skin's reaction often feels like a sudden bite when there are no insects around. (I can attest to this from my own personal allergies....sometimes it will even wake me up suddenly.) Her skin can be treated.

Seizures are also common in chihuahuas (again, due to poor breeding)....but don't cause pain (we know that from humans who have seizures.) They can be controlled with medication, however....and should be if she has more than one or two a month, or if they're very severe.

Please schedule an appointment for your baby ASAP. If it's the spinal thing or due to feeding table food, either situation can turn into a life-threatening emergency in a hurry. Let's hope it's nothing that serious...or if it is, that you catch it in time for treatment to be available. *fingers crossed*

If money is an issue, be upfront about that when you make the appointment. Ask for the exam, and then a written estimate for what the doctor recommends based on his/her findings. If you can't do everything that's recommended at one time, don't feel bad....just ask them to help you decide what's the most important to start with. Trust me...we understand, and we do that all the time. Check into CareCredit.com (not all clinics accept it, due to the large handling fees they charge us, so you might have to call around) and veterinarypetinsurance.com.
Your DVM is your best ally to help keep your baby pain-free, and with you for as long as possible. The good news is....medications she might need will be a lot less expensive than they would be if she were a Great Dane. :-)

Get her checked for diabetes. Seizures and shaking can be caused by low blood sugar. The "crying out in pain" may be that she is scared when she can't control the seizures or that the seizures cause her muscles to tighten up emitting a sound. Take her to a veterinarian.

She really does need to be seen by a Vet, the seizures can be controlled and the pain could be a bone or something lodged in her tummy.

dogs don't cry out in pain for no reason. They cry out in pain because they are in pain!!! Take it to a vet.

check her back. If she has seizures she may have injured herself during one.
