I have multiple cats in my house. I noticed today, one of the female cats was going around and smacking the other cats. They did nothing to provoke her. She just walked right up the them and smacked them. She even jumped up on the chair where one of my other cats were sitting, and smacked him in the butt. Why is she exhibiting this behavior?

I, too, have multiple cats in my house. I have 3 females and 2 male--all neutered. Two of the females absolutely hate the male; the other tolerates him. One female in particular likes to be "top" cat. She is the one most likely to smack the other cats around. She chases the smaller of the two females, sometimes in play, but sometimes also to establish dominance.
The male seems to want to be top cat, but this little female, about 1/3 his size, goes out of her way to make sure he knows that she does NOT accept him as top cat. He's mostly the outside cat, but when he comes in, she's going to smack him at least once.

I think your cat is also probably trying to establish herself as top cat.

This is normal cat behavior. The main problem occurs when two cats both think they should be top cat.

My youngest cat does that to the older ones, jumps on them from chairs and walks up to them and smacks them in the face...and they LOVE it.

She's just showing everybody that's she's the cat in charge, The mother cat, if you will. My #1 cat does it to the 3 other ones all the time. One shows up in her face, and it's bop bop bop. All the other cats take it with a grain of salt though, they laugh and run away.

she is letting all your other cats know that she is reigning queen of the pack. she is the alpha femme and the rest just have to find their niche in the pecking order. do not disrupt this process because when each cat knows his/her place, there will be peace and harmony in the cattery

Maybe she's not getting enough attention. I have four cats myself who act the same way every once in awhile. She also might be trying to become the dominant one.

question 1:
are they all fixed?
question 2:
is she fixed?

if they're all fixed it's probably a dominance issue, try to set her up with "her" space and keep the other cats out of it
If they're not all fixed, one could be going into "season" and she's more sensitive to it, or she could be going into "season" herself and be just a touch on the moody side
