I thought i was allergic to cats, but then i had to clean up an oil spill in my garage - picked up some oil spill remover in a bag and found it was the same as kitty litter - and started itching and having respiratory problems with just an open bag laying around......same as when i was in contacts with cats at friends' homes......i think its bentonite or something....is it possible? and if so, is there any relief.? and what the heck is in that stuff....is there any research out there

Yes, you can be allergic to any number of things. I went into Walmart one day to the aisle that carries welcome mats and they had those rope like "hemp: Mats and suddenly I thought my throat was going to close up. Didn't even know I had that allergy till then.

It's possible to be allergic to almost any airborne dust, which is what you were probably reacting to. Or it could even be evaporating chemicals coming off the material. But the dust is probably what got you; it gets to me.
