I've seen it on here several times where people have stated that they chose their particular religion/faith because God "spoke to" their hearts. If this be so, why is it that--when speaking to hearts--God doesn't lead (for lack of a better phrase) everyone to the same religion?

Not trying to start a brawl here, just asking a question...

Sometimes people can confuse what they want to hear with what God is trying to tell them that might not be what they want to hear. If the truth about our lives makes us uncomfortable, we might try to tell ourselves that God wouldn't be harsh with us--despite the obvious mess we're in as depraved creatures who have nothing good inside of us except for what God puts in our hearts. Bottom line, if what we think God is telling us doesn't gibe with what He has already told us in the Bible, then it's not Him talking.

I would say that it's because sometimes it's not actually God speaking. The Bible says that Satan disguises himself as an "Angel of Light". When it's truly God speaking, he only leads to one "religion" (I prefer relationship) with Him through Jesus Christ. I suppose the next question that someone reading this answer would ask is: "how do I tell the difference between God's voice and Satan's?" This is not an easy question to answer. I hope this doesn't sound too preachy, but here it goes...Through prayer and Bible study and fellowship with other believers. If the "voice" is leading you to anything that is contradictory to the Bible, then it is not God's voice. Because we live in a fallen world, often it is difficult to listen for God's voice. The Bible describes God as speaking with still, small voice. In this world with so many demands on our lives and craziness between work and play, family and friends, often we get too busy to even listen for the message from God. I have friends who believe that they have heard an audible voice from God, but in every case that was after they were already firm in their faith. More often than not, if you are seeking God with your whole heart, when you "hear" Him speak it will be an indescribable movement within your soul. When it happens, there is no mistaking it. The reason people say they have "heard" God is because the message they have received for their lives has been so clear that it couldn't have been more understandable if it was an actual audible voice.

A good point. What kind of god is this that it can't even seem to get it's message across without someone interpretating for him. First clue that this whole god and religion thing is a man made event.

Not everyone is the same person.

Imagine that the elephant is the voice of God, and the blind men are the people who hear Him. They all perceive the same single entity, but they interpret the portion that they perceive as the whole thing (everyone else's answer is different, and therefore obviously wrong) and they re-interpret that according to their own experiences, ways of thought and emotion, beliefs, etc.

The problem is that people focus on religion and the followers but not God. God didn't create religion. Man did.

Sometimes people use that phrase in an attempt to manipulate gullible Christians or Church members.

Example: "God spoke to my heart to tell you this --blah blah and so on."

I always respond: "If God believes that it is important to me. Don't you think he would tell me personally?"

That's a very good question. Maybe there's more to God than just one religion.

(Can I go to hell for saying that?)

He will knock on your door........will you let Him in
Some people choose a religion according to what they feel is right (as far as sinful things go) what is allowed and what is not allowed

Because if there were a god he'd know to get the message to your brain where you could do something with it.
