Hi! I've recently been attending an LDS church. I haven't been baptised yet, but i'm pretty sure thats where i'm heading. I've been going with my friend who's 16, but I just turned 18 last week (i'm still in high school), so I'm wondering if I should go to Institute and....whatever class is after Young Womens. Problem is we have a SMALL stake, and I don't know anyone in the higher age (well, that isn't married or like 30). Should I keep attending the younger classes, or go on to the older classes? What do they do at Institute?

P.S. please only answer if you're a mormon or former mormon and your answer is RELEVENT. I've heard a million reasons why i shouldn't join, i dont want to hear anymore.

I think the choice is up to you. I've known 18 year olds who stay in Young Women's until they graduate from high school. I've seen others who decide to go straight into Relief Society. Besides the basic gospel teaching, Young Women's focuses more on teenagers problems. Relief Society focuses more on the things that women (out of high school) deal with. Where do you think you'd be most comfortable?

If you live near a college town, you can also check to see if there are "college wards/branches". They have seperate college wards where I live. I think the main reason is so that young adults can attend church with others who are their age.

If you'd like to see how Relief Society is, you could also attend the class for one Sunday (then see if you think you'll be comfortable there).

If you still don't know what to do, you could ask a trusted leader for advice. They might have good insight on the matter. (And praying about it might help too).

P.S. Institute is where you can take a variety of religion classes during the week. I think you have to be out of high school to attend.

During High School children attend a seminary class for 4 years. Institute is a college level continuation. This provides LDS students the opportunity to take religion courses like they would take at BYU.

At institute you can sign up for a variety of classes: Book of Mormon, New Testament, Old Testament, Church History, and occasionally other gospel-related courses. You attend the class just like a college course with lectures, videos, class discussion, and reading assignments. It is a great way to learn more about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. As you know ALL of the teachings you learn there will be centered on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.

You will enjoy it greatly.

After Young Womens, is Relief Society. This is the final move for women in the church. Just like Priesthood is for the guys and right now we are studying the teachings of Wilford Woodruff. I hope that you enjoy R. S. it's the Largest Women's organization in the world.
