Inhale on the lift, and exhale on the release. That is the correct way.

It doesn't matter if you inhale or exhale while lifting, the key is not too hold your breathe ever. Oxygen is where most of your energy comes from, so inhale or exhale just try to maintain a normal breathing pattern.

Breathing is very important. Ive been lifting for years. When you exhale you have more power so try to exhale on the exertion part. Eg. If you are doing bicep curls on the curl up exhale on the release inhale.

Hope this helps....
When handling any weight, even a light weight, you should concentrate on the primary muscle or muscle group you are using while lifting and lowering the weight slowly and deliberately. Lift the weight slowly using a count of two, concentrate on squeezing the muscle, then lower the weight even more slowly using a count of four for each repetition. This extra concentration and timing will more effectively build your muscles than swinging the weights around while your mind is thinking about your grocery list or what assignments have to be done at the office.
Breathing is also important during your workout because you need to supply a good deal of oxygen to your muscles and brain while lifting heavy weights. Do your muscles and your brain a favor and breath out during the most strenuous part of the movement (eccentric phase) and breath in during the concentric phase. DO NOT hold your breath! There is danger in holding your breath while lifting weights. Exhaling during the exertion phase lowers your internal pressure, while failing to breath correctly can lead to broken blood vessels, as well as a hernia.

Inhale before you lift and exhale as you push/pull a weight. Martial artists will tell you the same, always exhale as you exert, has something to do with the diaphragm. You'll notice a slight, but remarkable difference.

I'm not a pro, but reckon you'd inhale while lifting. I can't imagine lifting a heavy weight while exhaling!

doesnt matter just as long as you remember to breath..a lot of people forget to breath...if you feel better buy inhaling when you lift up and exhale when letting down..what ever works for you as long as you breathe...

Yes, it does matter... but as this is very important to technique I will say instead of listening to my view... go to the gym and ask the trainer to show you how to breath properly. It is not as easy as it sounds to breath correctly, and it does have impact on your lifting.

It does matter, breathing wroung while lifting can cause strain on the body. Breath out as you lift, breath in as you drop.

Breath in through nose, out through mouth. if it is heavey weight, stagering breathing when exhaling works because it maintains 02 levles needed for cellular respiration..
