This is in the bird section so i would assume that you are thinking about a bird.
If you just want to look at then a finch or budgie.
If you want it to be a member of the family i would recommend one of the Parrot family.
I have a 13 month African Grey and he is fantastic to be with, they are very intelligent and will learn to speak quite quickly, they pick up household noises and have you wondering where the noise is coming from, he also sits on my shoulder whenever i walk round the house and watches telly at night.
It is, however, important that the both of you interact with the bird as they can be a bit jealous, they are a lot of fun and can live for about 60 years

This question was asked in the Pets>Birds section so I'm assuming you're asking about what bird would be best? I like finches myself, they sing and brighten my day. If he's looking for more for a bird that can be walked around with an Amazon Parrot is entertaining. Sorry you really didn't give us much to work with here.

You should buy him a ferret. I have two and my husband and daughter love them the ferrets are so funny to watch play.. and they are so cute. Plus they sleep in cute little hammocks and it is funny to watch them run because they get al excited and run sideways.. Buy him a ferret!!
