You are surrendering to God, the almighty. The One God who created everything, the heavens and the earth, human beings etc..... Islam is about your relationship with this God alone. Anything else that calls to be worship is false. The Prophets and Messengers were sent by God to teach the people how to worship God alone and to stay away from worshipping anything or anyone else including themselves. Try to read the noble Quran which is the speech of God(uncorrupted). God has promised to preserve the Quran, which isn't the case for the previous books. Also pray to God to show you the truth.

Very simple God and only God. Islam is about getting back to the worship of God without the interference of idolising humans and power of a church. To us Abraham was the firsts of Islam and the Jesus was of Islam, i.e a Submittor, and that he never claimed he was God but this was done by the Romans during the composing of the bible. For us Muhammed is just a human(18:110) who was given a message, so we do not submit to or worship him either(17:46 ). In the Qur'an God shows Muhammed is not perfect, he turned away the blind, fear people when he should have only feared God, he was even prohibted to make laws except what God told him to put in the Qur'an and was punished for doing this(33:30-31), God says that he is not even allowed to guide the ones he love, God is the only one who can guide you, Muhammeds sole purpose was to deliver the Qur'an(42:48,13:40,5:99 ) , he is not to be idolised or submitted to, he is no less or more divine than Jesus, Moses, Abraham etc....this is why in Islam there is not a condition of religion for salvation, it is the belief in God that is the key and God's mercy is boundless, he is awesome and we can never predict what he decides.

To God, - Allah, their name for the same God as God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, the one God of the Old Testament. There are many names that people have called this same God, the are just ways of addressing God, such as Lord, Most High, Jahovah, etc.
That is like your full name being Katherine and your family calls you Kathy and your friends Kat and your boyfriend calls you honey , etc, but you are the same person, you don't change with your nick names but they may express different parts of your personality.
Hope that makes sense.

Yes you are correct Islam means peace and submission to Allah the only one God.No other god than Allah. We do not allow to believe in other god .Muslims do not believe that Allah has a son.Jesus was only a prophet who had no father. He had only a mother Maria Maria or Siti Maryam was a sacred daughter of Imran prophet a descendant of Abraham prophet.Holy spirit was Jibril angel who told to Maria that she would have pregnant without approaching by any man.We should surrender to Allah the only one God who created us and called back us to Him.Allah appointed prophets for forwarding God's religion to the people in this world. They ere only a messenger. We should pray to Allah not to our prophets. Our prophets prayed also to Allah the only one God.God appointed prophets who had good morals and honest and they did not corrupt. and they were trustful.Yes I agree with you that people especially political men are tend to corrupt and so we distrust them.Allah gave us a life guidance in line with the development of our generations i.e Zabur to Daud prophet,Taurat to Moses prophet,Bible to Jesus or Isa prophet and the last Qur'an to Muhammad prophet peace be upon him..People who corrupt are against with Allah's life guidance.

One submits to God and his Will. A Muslim believes in thr truth of all earlier scriptures. The only one that has not been tampered with however is the Qur'an. Becuaseof this, it is the best source and it lays ou the truths and lies of other books.
A Muslim believes in one God, or Allah (The God in Arabic). He has created all things. He is beyonf human attributes and perceptions. He is Benificent and Merciful; Just and Forgiving. We do not give God partners and we do not confuse God with his messangers.

You are not in a superstore and making selective choices.
With religion, you have to accept all precepts, otherwise you are insincere and shallow. Having said that, no religion can claim violence as part of its regime. History has shown that violence destroys its creator. Anyone who wants to ride the tiger's back will eventually end up inside its stomach.
The path of truth is strewn with untruths. Remember Mohandas Gandhi of India. He resisted a world power of his time with a formula of non violence. He was successful. No doubt, it took 50 years for him to achieve freedom. The patience of this man was awesome. God is not in some unseen corner of the universe. He is in you! It is your doubt about yourself, your insecurity which dims your light on the path. To achieve the goal, one must believe in himself. You are a lamp, light the way.

See, in order to analyze who to surrender to, one should know the difference between God and his Prophets.
God is the ultimate creator of everything there is in this world and one day we have to return to Him. There are rules of living in every country, community and similarly, God has set rules of living in this world.
How will he pass us the rules? Will He come himself? NO....cuz if we see Him in form, we won't be scared of Him anymore.
So, He chose messengers (Prophets) and spoke to them(didn't even show Himself to them) and asked them to guide humanity.
When messengers themselves are humans like us, how can we worship them and why? They themselves are asking us to worship God.
So, basically the submission is to God and God alone - not to the Prophets.

The question, and, so far, all the answers assume that there is indeed a god and that he has an interest in controlling humanity.
Why? There's no evidence for his/her/its existence.
And
Even if it did exist, I for one never voted for it. I don't submit to tyrannical dictators who make Hitler look like a loveable grandfather.

One surrenders to what one believes he must do for god. Like if he wants to bomb people for god, then that's the action that he must submit to.

Not exactly.
Remember that Semitic languages confer more meaning on consonants than on vowels. In many Semitic languages the letter configuration ' SLM ' means the core than connects submission to God (or Allah), peace, having a special understanding of the mind of god....
consider 'ShaLoM', 'SaLaaM', 'muSLiM', 'SaLoMon'......
