Well first of all it doesn't. No where in scripture is celibacy advocated. It isn't good for man to be alone and the greatest joy and fulfillment in mortality comes from a happily married couple raising a family in light and truth. The concept of celibacy is a man-made false idea started in the Catholic church after misinterpreting a passage in which Paul says that he wishes that all men were like him. But this has nothing to do with being celibate.

To start with, celibacy is a great benefit to the individual because of the self control and discipline involved.
It is also a benefit to society because it helps limit the spread of diseases and improves attitude toward morality and standards of behavior.
For the married person, it makes marriage more valuable if you remained celibate until marriage. Sex is reported through surveys that sex is better between married couples and better yet if the couple were celibate until marriage.
But you asked how it brings us closer to truth. I'd suggest to you that it is a spiritual thing. Truth is not relevative. Truth is absolute. This is why it so important to keep accurate historical records and not allow factions to re-visit history. Literally to re-write history so that it is more politically correct or lines up better with a dictator's way of thinking. Currently, the PC crowd is busy removing every instance in history of public figures smoking and that our country was founded on Christian values. So in regard to celibacy, holiness or righteousness before our God frees us to receive from God wisdom and an understanding of morality and the application of values and the use of knowledge in right ways. Selfish vs. unselfish.

Celibacy, together with a host of ridiculous rituals and other mumbo jumbo, is an invention of the Catholic church and also by the monastic orders of Hindus and Buddhists. It cannot have relevance to any "truth" because it is a creation of imperfect men.

Nice Question. To put it in basic terms, when we are pre-occupied with physical things, such as sexuality, than we lose sight of spirituality. Physical things are generally meant to describe a higher spiritual truth. (All truth is spiritual). We recognize that physicality only shadows what's true. In other words, we can understand a profound spiritual truth by looking at the physical world around us. Like, we understand more about God's character, by looking at how we understand our natural father (in example).
When you become celibate for a certain period of time, you're peeling away from the physical things that sometimes inhibit us from seeing things as they are. We become so caught up in thinking that our physical selves are our only selves, and so we don't seek a truth greater than a physical reality. We believe that what is physically evident is all there is. When we start to deny ourselves certain physical elements, like sexuality or eating (like Gandhi did), we start to see what lies beyond.. and that truth is far greater and much more brilliant than the shadow that we behold through physical experience.

The answer to the truth is love. That is why there is man and woman and what GOD planned for us as human's and not of perfection as HE was. But marriage and the joining of two into one does" perfect" it in HIS laws. It is" the closet thing to celibacy " as it is HIS way of giving mankind love and life, but" just the two of them together and no others involved." Fidelity and love, family and children. Trust, love, faith, hope, joy and everlasting life in HEAVEN with HIM when we are no longer on this earth........."celibacy" in the dearest form as a blessing from HIM. HE who loves us and favors us with graces that when we follow HIS laws, we will always be in HIS favor forever...........
*I knew I would be found to be frivolous and against what celibacy represents on a so called "normal" agenda. So it's no surprise that I was given a thumbs down for my answer. It was stretched to the limits of perception and I agree, but seeing how there are very few celibate people today, I thought that a new way of looking at the way GOD has gifted us a people and letting us live a life full of love and satisfying our needs sexually might be accepted as a way of looking at all that HE has given us.
I know that celibate means "unmarried and without sexual relations," I'm not ignorant. But perhaps one could look at the gift of love, marriage and fidelity as being celibate, when only between the two HE has joined as one. Maybe I'm a little to "out there" for the likes of some christians and catholics, ( by the way of which I am one, "catholic") but I still think that those that are true to one another for all the years they are married by HIS laws and with HIS blessings are "celibate" in a way that is acceptable to HIM. FORGET MY ANSWER, NO ONE GETS WHAT IS TRYING TO BE SAID HERE. TOO FAR OUT FOR MOST PEOPLE TO UNDERSTAND OR EVEN GET A GLIMPSE OF WHAT IS BEING SUGGETED AS A SOLUTION TO WHY HE ASKS WHAT HE DOES OF US IN MARRIAGE AND IS HARDLY EVER FOLLOWED THESE DAYS.....EVEN MARRIAGE TO THE CHURCH..

Celibacy is used by many as a spiritual technique to grow closer to God. It is not intended for everybody. If it were, the human species would die out.

Actually, truth has nothing to do with the genitals. You can think more clearly after a good round of sex.

Think about it.
It does not make sense, does it?
Only the naive, uneducated, or stupid take it seriously (except for those who use it to control people like the Catholic [we're all cross-dressing pedophiles here] Church.
