Is beer good for you? You decide based on these facts:
GOOD NEWS #1:
Beer contains no fat.
BAD NEWS #1:
Beer contains alchohol, and there are about 7 calories per gram of alcohol, compared to 4 calories for carbohydrates or protein. Fat has about 9 calories per gram.
GOOD NEWS #2:
Beer is low in sugar.
BAD NEWS #2:
Alcohol can cause blood sugar levels to drop more rapidly. That can stimulate your appetite, and disrupt your ability to tell when you've had enough to eat. This can also create fatigue and your energy level will suffer.
GOOD NEWS #3:
Beer is a source of soluble fiber which is derived from the cell walls of malted barley. A liter of beer contains an average of 20% of the recommended daily intake of fiber and some beers can provide up to 60%. As well as aiding healthy bowel function, this has a further benefit by slowing down the digestion and absorption of food and reducing cholesterol levels, which may help to reduce the risk of heart disease. Beer itself has no cholesterol.
BAD NEWS #3:
Because alcohol interferes with the body's absorption of vitamins and minerals, it can lessen the body's ability to burn stored fat. Calories from alcohol may go right to your stomach. Also, alcohol is detoxified by the liver. In the process of metabolizing excess quantities of alcohol, the liver swells and may itself become filled with fat. All these factors contribute to what is known as a "beer belly."
GOOD NEWS #4:
One 12-ounce serving of "regular" (150 calories) beer per night adds more than 1,000 calories a week to a diet, and that works out to an extra 15 pounds per year. One light beer per night adds 10 pounds.
BAD NEWS #4:
A 5-foot-9, 160-pound, 30-year-old man must walk only about 40 minutes at 3 miles per hour (moderate pace) to burn 150 calories.
GOOD NEWS #5:
Moderate levels of consumption of beer have been shown to reduce stress and the chances of heart disease.
BAD NEWS #5:
Alcohol can impair your judgment, causing you to drink more than you should. To top it off, many people eat high-calorie, high-sodium snacks when they drink.
GOOD NEWS #6:
Beer contains significant amounts of magnesium, selenium, potassium, phosphorus, biotin, and is chock full of B vitamins.
BAD NEWS #6:
Alcohol destroys Vitamin C and Vitamin B complex. Drinking beer that has not filtered out the Vitamin B (such as English "real ale," many microbrewed beers and homebrew) will help combat the effects of alcohol — most notably a hangover.

Coors, Bud, Rolling Rock and Papst Blue Ribbon are all mild flavored beers (Papst is very cheap and has a nice dry flavor), Corona with lime & blue moon are citrus beers that go down easy. I got started on Killian's Irish Red. Really, try them all, beer comes in more variations than wine and they all have their own characters. If you want to try the Pepsi challenge, just for the hell of it, to tell how different they can be, line up a Bud, a Corona, a Sam Adams Ale, a Heineken and a Guinness the next time your at a bar. Bud is has a mild flavor and Guinness (to me) almost tastes like rich black coffee and it's just as Dark. Beer is an acquired taste for sure and some of them are absolutely horrid by any standard but once you get the first few down, they all taste good.

I have been drinking 1/4 keg of beer a week--That's 4 1/2 cases for 40 years! I drink a variety and like keg beer for its taste..No, I'm not really fat.It does make me horny! I noticed a strange thing with me and beer. When I drink beer and have sex with a woman---I stay up all night---It never seems to go down. Women have said that they cant take anymore--God I love beer!!

I saw a study the other day that said a glass of wine is good for you, but a beer a day is better. It has some nutritious value, and a drink of alcohol a day can be good for you, it depends on your situation, and the beer.

My brother always said the beer is simply liquid bread and that bread is good for you so beer must be.
But yeah a glass of red wine a day is meant to be good for your heart...

Two beers a day is full of vitamin B and equals four pieces of healthy bread; good for your hair, nails and a good night's sleep.
A glass or two of red wine is excellent for the heart, especially for people over 40.

beer does have nutritional value, and darker beers have the same health benefits as red wine, just don't overdo it...drinking more than 2 or 3 beers daily negates the positive effects.

My neighbour used to drink at least 1 pint of beer a day, sometimes 2 but no more and usually a very small whisky at bed time. Actually he has died now...........mind you, he was nearly 103 years old!
