We all know that Max Muller, Mme Blavatsky, Dr. Annie Besant and the likes were strong votaries of Indian philosophy and religion.

'The Beatles' were also the disciples of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and Yehudi Menuhin practised yoga at the feet of BKS Iyengar. Michael Jackson considers Deepak chopra as his 'guru'. Dr.David Frawley is a peerless Vedic scholar and a convert to Hinduism.

Richard Gere is a convert to Buddhism and rockstar Tina Turner too dabbled with Buddhist meditations.

More and more westerners are getting attracted to Hinduism and Indian philosophy.

But why? ! ? !

People like to dablle in the exotic and different, regardless if it is good for them or not. In the cases you are speaking of, I would say it is more of an exploration. If you havn't noticed, most of these people are very well off. It is often the wealthiest of folks who forget where they come from. Religion is a much more individual interpretive experience if you have wnough money to make it so.

All the GREAT minds? No one you listed would be considered a GREAT mind. Famous yes. You also listed a couple of well know occultists.....are you saying that indian philosophy is occultic? I also would not think that Buddhism counts as "hindu" or "indian" philosopy. Study before you waste our time. Get your facts straight.

Also are you purposely trying to make the agnostics look bad?

The majority of great minds are not drawn to those religions. As to why people who actually do have what people might consider a "great mind" get drawn to it I could only guess at what might be some of the reasons since each individual has their own personal motivations for what they decide to do. In general I would say that the people whom you are talking about are just like everyone else in that they were created by God and they have a built in longing to have a relationship with their creator. Having already rejected Christianity for whatever reason they go looking in other places and since those religions offer the reasoning of men instead of the wisdom of God as found in the Bible they get drawn in that direction.

1 Corinthians 1:18-24 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written: "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the understanding of the prudent I will annul." 20 Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? 21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, God was well pleased, through the foolishness of our preaching, to save those that believe. 22 For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom; 23 but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block, and to the Greeks foolishness, 24 but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believes, both to the Jew first and to the Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, "The just shall live by faith." 18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven upon all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness. 19 Because that which is known of God is manifest among them, for God has shown it to them. 20 For the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things made, both His eternal power and Divinity, so that they are without excuse.

21 Because, having known God, they did not glorify Him as God, or give thanks, but became vain in their reasonings, and their senseless heart was darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God for a likeness of an image of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and reptiles.
