I don't have the first clue about background checks, but does anyone know how the average person can perform a legit background check? ...for free???

these other people are morons it depends what state you are in wisconsin were i live has Wisconsin Circuit Court Access (WCCA)
Access to the Public Records of the Consolidated Court Automation Programs (CCAP) .

most states have somthing similary to this

You can't do an effective background check for free, and most that charge a fee have some limitations and are not always accurate. The type of background check is another matter, there's credit reports, criminal records, employment histories and a host of other catagories to select from. A comprehensive background check is usually preformed through an FBI data base.

ya, check the courthouse's public records. then apply for a FOIA release. Too lazy, too bad. you probably don't really need it anyway.
