My nephew didn't talk till he was 3. The doctors said as long as he communicated in another way, ie pointing, etc. Don't worry! You are probably such a good mommy, he doesn't need to say anything right now!! He will talk soon, and probably have a lot to say!! :)

I am so on that boat hun. My son is 20 months and he doesn't talk. He says mom but that is it. He really can talk he just doesn't. well that is at least what I think cuz I've heard him say stuff but only once in a blue moon. he does talk up a storm in some other language lol that my 4 yr seems to understand. The doctors tried to tell me maybe he had a hearing problem. But the truth is he's just not ready. Do you have an older child? I learned that a lot of second children don't talk because they don't have to. They have their older brother or sister to do it for them. But if you are concerned you can get his hearing checked, sometimes if they've had allergies even if you weren't aware they can get fluid in their ears to make it difficult for them to hear sounds well enough to repeat them. that is what the doctor thought might have been wrong with my son, that's not the case with mine, but it can be something to think about. Good luck and don't worry too much.

I know how you feel. My 2 oldest boys didn't put 2 words together until well after their 2nd b-days. My oldest had a lot of ear infections that left weeks of fluid behind his eardrums after each one causing his hearing to be muffled and he couldn't understand enough to learn language. He has waxy ears too which doesn't help. Every couple of months at Doc's suggestion, we put mineral oil in his ears 3 x day for 3 days then flush the loosened wax with a bulb syringe, no more ear infections and at 5 yrs, he's very articulate, and loves to talk, ALL THE TIME. My 2nd son was too busy with physical accomplishments to bother with talking. He crawled at 5 months, walked at 9 months, ran and caught footballs at 10 months and so on. His Dr said that when he was finished mastering the physical world he would have a language explosion. At almost 3 yrs, he's speaking in sentences, memorizing lyrics, and making up stories, up from single words 4 months ago. So don't worry too much, focus on the things he's excelling at right now, and try not to compare him to any girls his age, they always seem to talk it up while our boys just stare.
If however he seems distant from caregivers, seems really sensitive to sound, touch, smell etc, obsesses more then the average 2 y.o. or displays odd repetative body movement i.e head banging, hand flapping, humming sounds, etc, you might ask his pediatrician about an autism spectrum disorder, I did, because speak delay is a big symptom. My boys aren't affected by it, but I knew early detection was really important.
You are a good mom for wanting to keep your son healthy and on track. Just remember, all kids are different, Einstein didn't talk at 27 months. ;-)

Make sure he doesn't have any ear problems, and make sure you talk to him alot! My nephew didn't talk until he was three and a half because his mom never talked to him. I'm not sayiing that you don't talk to him because I'm more than sure you do. There are just many reasons why he could be that way. Perhaps talk with your doctor about it. My son is one and a half and he talks a little bit. Although he only says small words like mama, papa, baba, mine, yes, no.. so on.

could be a hearing problem by now you should know if he has a hearing problem if not all kids take different lengths of time to talk. My 27m boy only says about as much as my 16m daughter although he can put it in sentences while she can not but he just started talking

when my son was around that age he too didnt talk . he started preschool at that age and by the end of his first 3 months he was talking well. Some times kids need to be around other kids to learn better. It is normal and he will be ok every child is different and will learn different have faith and continue to work with him and he will be fine. Unless our pediatrician tells you otherrwise.

Maybe he has a hearing problem.
Does he talk at all, or just not real words? More details are needed.

FISRT, HAVE THE DOCTOR CHECK HIS HEARING. BY AGE 2 TODDLERS SHOULD BE PUTTING 2 WORDS TOGETHER. AT AGE 3, 4 TO 5 WORD UTTERANCE. I WOULD VOICE YOUR CONCERN TO THE DOCTOR. EARLY INTERVENTION WOULD COME TEST HIM AT YOUR HOUS. AT AGE 3, THE SCHOOL DISTRCICT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR SPEECH SERVICES.
