Poverty level on a federal level (for 48 states excluding HI and AK) for a family size of one is $9,310 for a family size of two is $12,490. It is different if you live in HI or AK. But I believe these guidelines are outrageous - how could anyone support them selves on $775 a month??

It depends on what state you live in, different states have different costs of living. So if you live in Wyoming as opposed to New York, your cost of living is going to be different, so the poverty level will be different as well. I know where I live it is around 16,400. To find out more you can go to www.irs.gov, they have answers to just about all your questions there.
