Usually lactose intolerance involves loose stools and gas. When you are allergic to milk, you usually have a different reaction such as swelling, lumps. When you throw something up, you generally are not allergic to the milk. I'm not certain why your son spits up sour smelling milk but I don't think it is lactose intolerance (I suffer from that) and don't believe it is an allergic reaction. Some substances just don't settle with some people. I can't take many foods or medicines, such as codine, because I just throw it up. My stomach doesn't agree with it, but it's not because I'm allergic. My doctor's said that vomiting is not a sign of an allergy. I'd ask a doctor, they would know a little bit more. I'm kind of concerned that the milk smells sour when it comes back up, there might be some more serious issues going on.

My son did the same thing. He was throwing up around 10-20 times a day.
I took him to get allergy tested. He was NOT allergic to lactose, just intolerant. Now he's almost 3 and is starting to out grow it. They are not the same thing.
He drinks Vanilla Silk and has milk free Gelato & he is the happiest kid in the world.
Stay away from Yogurt, Sour Cream, Ice Cream, Cream Cheese... just to name a few

There are a few questions before your question can be answered. What kind of milk. How long. Did you breastfeed.
I breast fed 3 of my children and the last one did not want to stop. When I gave him regular milk he would throw it up. After trial and error I realized he still depended on my breast milk so i started pumping and slowly weened him by doing 1/2 and 1/2 with my milk and reg. milk. It could be your son just does not like milk or it could be a health issue. I would take him to his doctor to be on the safe side.

Switch to Stage 2 formula, I have never believed humans should consume a COW's milk, why not rat milk, or dog milk. Check the nutrition facts on the milk, not much in there!! Everyone should take a vitamin!

Just try some lactose free milk/rice milk. If that works and he doesn't spit it up then that's the problem. You may want to call your dr. or local wic office for advice or something but I'm sure it won't hurt to try something different.

i've got not got the main finished answer for this, yet i had to function my 2 cents. Lactose intolerance i think of is a digestive situation, so he might get gassy and according to probability have diarrhea if he have been illiberal. Throwing up might make me think of hypersensitivity, even nonetheless hypersensitive reactions and intolerances are in specific circumstances basically a count of severity, extremely than diverse indicators. yet i think of maximum folk of solutions so some distance, approximately reflux are the main probable reason of throwing up, and the technique of having him digest the milk earlier he lies down the superb answer. I fantastically had to remark on the respond that suggested it rather is in simple terms the milk interior the bottle that would reason enamel decay. it is in simple terms unfaithful. of course it rather is the for sure occurring sugar interior the milk, which keeps to be on the tooth all night. So even no count if it rather is given in a sippy cup, have him rinse his mouth with water after the milk is completed and earlier he falls asleep. regrettably, I also have a 2 year previous with 3 cavities because of the fact I wasn't diligent sufficient approximately this and approximately thorough brushing. i assumed it became into extra for procuring them interior the habit than rather functionally considerable. :(

Whenever anyone spits up milk it is sour, from the acids in your stomache. Even newborn babies who drink breastmilk.
It doesn't sound like he is allergic to me.
If you are no longer breastfeeding and are concerned he is allergic to cow's milk, try goats milk. Soy milk is not good for babies.
