two cans of cheese soup (store brands are ok)
one small box of velveeta, sliced and cubed
one can of sliced, pickled jalapenos
one bag of tortilla chips

combine the soup with the cheese in a microwavable bowl. nuke it for 3-5 minutes, a minute at a time, stirring with a wooden spoon at each minute to make sure the lumps are gone. stay close to the microwave. stir in sliced jalapenos and serve with your tortilla chips.

Delicious!

shouldn't cost more than $10.

Round tortilla chips 3.00
Salsa 3.00
Shredded Cheese (not swiss or mozz, or american) 5.00
Hamburger 3.00
Taco Seasoning pack 1.50
Sour Cream 1.00

For $16.50 This stuff will make a bunch of nachos.

Brown the hamburger in a pan and add the taco seasoning mix.
Pile a single layer, slightly ovelapped of chips on an ovenproof plate or something that will fit in the toaster oven. You can use a microwave but they won't be as good.

Sprinkle a layer of cheese over the chips
Sprinkle some taco meat on top of the cheese
Drizzle a few spoons of Salsa
Repeat with one more layer of chips, cheese, meat, salsa, and end with a little more cheese.

Put the whole deal in the toaster oven, turn it on to 300 for about 10 mintues, or until the cheese is melted, but not long enough for the cheese on the top to get hard and browned.
Finish up with a big spoon of sourcream in the middle. You can also put guacamole if you want (stop into a taco place and get a small side order)

Awesome!

Depends on the audience.

If it's a bunch of guys -- then cook up some hamburger or even some steak sliced very thin. It's ALL about the cheese, so put a layer of (my favorite) Tostitos, then a layer of shredded Cheddar cheese, then a layer of Tostios, then a layer of onions, meat, green chiles (with the juices), maybe some beans and another layer of cheese! Cook in the oven for a while, then up it to Broil for just a minute or two to get the edges crispy. Put a few dollops of sour cream on top and serve with Ice Cold beer.

If it's for the ladies, use a lot more veggies. I like broccoli and mushrooms and onions. No meat for the ladies and less cheese (tho it's all about the cheese, lol).

I might spend easily 20 dollars on Nachos for the Super Bowl, a fairly large party.

I would say you'll be spending around $15 - I'm in Oregon and I know grocery prices vary from state to state. My family's favorite style of nachos:
Tortilla chips topped with grated cheese (stick 'em in the oven or microwave for a few min till the cheese is melted) and taco seasoned hamburger (taco seasoning packets are available in the store, directions for seasoning the beef are on the back), diced green chiles (small can in the hispanic food section), chopped olives, sour cream, guacamole, and diced tomatoes. Good luck and happy cookin!!

You write yourself a list of necessities and what they are going to cost you. All the things you MUST have this week for you and the family to survive. Food, fruit, veg. Just enough of everything. If you then have any money left over you can list the next things that it would be nice to have - better quality toilet paper, named-brand cornflakes, better quality furniture polish etc. IF there is anything left, list the luxury items - biscuits, chocolate, cakes etc.....or those sale items. (Sale items are all very well as long as they are things you need. Buying 10 items because they are cheap isn't always the best thing to do if you are hard up.) Then STICK TO YOUR LIST when you go shopping. You'll find that you start to manage better as the weeks go on and eventually you will have your list of items inside your head and it'll become a lot easier.....but to start with, write it all down and stick to it. It helps to order your thoughts.

Take real corn tortillas... fry them in oil until crisp and golden (or buy decent corn tostitos).
Top with monterry Jack and/ or Chihuahua cheese- melt in brolier for a few minutes.

Put on tomatoes, jalapenos, olives (if you like- I don't) piquante salsa (Herdez brand {not taquera] if you can find it at Wal-Mart) sour cream and guacamole (or just sliced avocados).
serve, enjoy and run away from the cheese whiz. If you MUST use processed cheese, use Tostitos salsa con queso (NOT OLD DUTCH OR NO-NAME/ PC stuff)

Here in Mexico, authentic "nachos" are just fresh fried tortillas served with chipotle salsa or Roja Salsa or salsa verde. Very nice, but I still like my north American nachos. :)

good big corn chips, salsa, you can go with a jar of cheese whiz or you can use the grated taco cheese and melt it on the chips if you want, onions, chopped tomatoes, and jalapenos . if you want you can melt the cheese whiz and the salsa together, to make a hot cheesy dip and then put the other items on the side to add to it, or you can put the chips on a large baking sheet or a oven proof tray, and sprinkle the cheese all over the chips and heat then take out and serve with salsa and the veggies sprinkled all over the top of them.

Depends on how "hearty" you want your nachos. For myself, I like tostito's type chips then I put on:

diced onion, shredded chicken (or beef), diced chili peppers, cilantro, avocado (optional), chedder or jack cheese- and you might add chili or sour cream, etc.

Probably spend around $15.00 to make nachos that are basically a meal.
