St. Francis lived. This is what he did "for the environment."

He did not preach birds. Animals recognized him as a man who would bring them no harm. It is said that fish leapt from streams and ponds when he walked by.

Yes, he was a dutiful disciple of Christ, and he honored God's creation. He wasn't an ecologist...I don't think ecology as a branch of science had been conceived of yet. There would have been no problem if he were an ecologist, but he simply wasn't.

St. Francis spent much time alone in prayer and meditation, to renew himself with the Lord before re-entering human fellowship.
