Hey guys, I go to this dentist every week and his assistants are a little "harsh" Today I went and the assistant was working in my mouth, he pulled it to the point where it was extremely painful! It was for about 5 seconds or so. I go once every month and the assistants always do this, now I have a question. There is no way it can cause damage to my lips right?

What about them being stretched out over time as a resault of this? Like those african tribes lol

I got once a month... and I speak up but they just say "sorry" and do it again in 5 minutes. It's useless

I'm a dentist.

That happens more than you think, and unfortunately we, as the doctor, have no way of knowing unless you stop and say, "it hurts".

As far as damaging your lip, not a chance. You'd have to stretch your lip for several months in duration for a change to occur.

Yes it can cause damage I don't know about permanent damage but they can stretch until cracking point and bleed. I had this happen to me once. You need to speak up, even if its just a little grunt of pain to let them know they are hurting you. I also find it helpful to put a pound of chap stick or lip balm on before I go in that way all those stupid tools just slip right off at the first tug. But your really should say something. Going to the dentist can be stressful enough without having to worry about your lips hurting.

No offense, but come on! The only way your lips are going to look like those of people in African tribes is by sticking a disk inside your lip skin and slowly stretching it out by upping up the disk size.
Ask if they can try not to stretch your mouth so hard.

This sounds crude. Complain to the head.

Tell them you understand some pain is necessary, but it's really much too often. Plus, you have spoken up to remind them, but they just do it again 5 minutes later. 'The customer is always right.' Request for a change of dentists if there are more than one dentists, or they could be more careful. Otherwise, change your dental clinic!

Good luck!

the lips can stretch very far. but if you skin still has elasticity and your fairly young, they will spring right back, and as for them hurting when being pulled on, do they feelike they are being split apart? try using chapstick lots and lots of chapstick before the dentist, i enjoy burtsbees.
