a trainer at petsmart told me to try to find food with little color such as green for veggies, orange for cheese flavors, etc b/c it has less processed items but if you go to a pet store and ask them what to look for they can help. also the trainer said to look for meat in the top three ingredients :) hope you find something good for your dog, I personally use authority from petsmart and it last a while for my shih tzu :)

Beneful is one of the worst foods out there. It's loaded with cheap grain fillers which dog's can't digest (worst offenders are corn wheat and barley), and lots of dyes (cancer links), Artificial preservatives (also cancer linked), and has about the highest sugar content of any pet food (bad for dogs but they like the taste). If you must buy in a grocery store, go for Purina one or Iams. If you could possibly go to a specialty pet or feed store, there are much healthier choices in those places.

ve heard Beneful really isnt that great due to the artifical colors and additives added in it, Ive alwasy fed my dogs Pedigree & they have alwasy lived long & healthy lives also Purina One is suppossed to be very good & is known for no artifical colors which are known to be bad for your pooch......both of these can be found in grocery stores & are not too expensive. They are both more expensive than Beneful but not outrageously priced....FYI: Pedigree is the cheaper out of the two if cost is a factor to you.....also Pedigree comes in a small/indoor dog formula

I have never had much success with beneful it has always given my chihuahuas diarrhea, I have always used Purina dog chow small bites. Between the food and preventive medicine My kiddos have lived very long lives, most have reached the gray old age of 19 to 20.

I think Beneful is just okay. I used to feed my dog Iams and she did well on it. A friend of mine has two yorkies and she feeds Iams--the mini-chunks. If u have a Costco membership, their Kirkland dog food is pretty good and cheap. They also have organic dog food now. However, I think the best stuff is online or in pet stores and is pricier.

Btw, the better quality the food, the fewer amount of stools your dog will produce.

No,it has too many artificial colors and additives to make it soft and chewy. If you have to buy from a grocery store, try Purina ONE,any of the formulas,Pedigree,or Alpo Lamb and Rice.Try not to buy anything that is red, green, etc.A small amount of canned;i.e.,Pedigree,Mighty Dog will add to the quality of his diet as it contains more meat.Otherwise a premium food from a pet store is best. I like Diamond Naturals,as they contain no corn, and Bil-Jac Fresh frozen, plus Pedigree canned. There are some super-premium ones that contain human-grade ingredients, but they are very expensive. If you only have one small dog, though,it would be worth it to try some of them.

Hello,
My vetrinarian has always told people with small breed dogs to feed them puppy chow and never feed table scraps and they will live a long healthy life. Puppy chow is all you need no matter the age as long as you dont feed human food it should be a healthy little friend for a long time.

My vet recommends Iams. You can get it at Walmart or a grocery store.
