Hi
There appears to be a few spelling errors in the text as written by you. And some unexplained capital letters.
Ki(a) Ora means hello, good evening, good morning, good afternoon, etc.
ma te wa means - in time
po mar(i)e means - goodnight
Atahua in your text has a capital letter which implies it is the name of a place. However, 'ataahua' means - good looking, attractive, gorgeous etc.
mo tenei means - hereby
Tane is your text again has a capital letter so either it is a reference to Tane - a legendary Maori figure - or the name of a person. Otherwise without the capital letter, tane would mean - bridegroom or male.
ka kite ano means - see you again
So, given the above inconsistences I can't give you an accurate translation but as you can see, there is nothing in there that is insulting.

RE:
Anyone in New Zealand... am I being given an insult or a compliment in Maori?...can someone translate for me ?
"Ki Ora ma te wa, Po mare e Atahua mo tenei Tane. Ka kite ano."
I received this at the end of an e-mail, but never found out what it says!! I'd like to know.... but can't find out. I'm pretty sure it's one of the Maori languages. I'm really think it's words...

I'm pretty sure what you are describing is, sad to say, typically a case of straight-up clueless-ness. I've heard of black guys who say similar things to black girls too, but I'm not black, so I'm sure my perspective might be a bit removed. Some of those folks might be handing out back-handed compliments with full knowledge. I know guys who operate under the idea that when you meet a woman, you should both compliment and mildly insult her. I'm not really sure where that idea comes from, but I know that many 'typical' women are drawn to that kind of conflict. It doesn't completely make sense to me, but seems to be true in many cases. Now, obviously, you aren't one of those women, and don't get drawn in by such silly tactics. But my opinion, from the armchair, is that the majority of these people really are clueless. Or maybe they are just struck dumb by your beauty and lose the ability to form an effective sentence! (Stranger things have happened than a guy making a total @$$ of himself over a pretty lady). Of course, I would like to assume that these folks aren't just closet racists or similar foolishness. I guess I'm feeling optimistic today! Don't stress too hard about it. At least 1/4 of the people out there are retards (in the idiot sense, not the handicapped sense) and are incapable if being educated.

I'm not black but I have a lot of black friends and have heard them say someone that had dark skin was pretty for a dark skinned girl so maybe that's what they meant. I've heard that plenty of times from black people but never about there not being a lot of pretty black women in general. I actually think dark skin is sexy as well as other skin tones personally.
