I'm singing in church for my aunt's anniversary of being a nun this end of month.. She wanted me to sing her favorite song 'Only a Shadow'. The problem is i never heard it before and there's no cassette or cd of that song.... i assume its an old song. Anybody knows who sang the song? or heard it? or where i can downloaded the song?...... I can't let her down.......

It was published in the Glory & Praise Hymnal. Many parishes have gotten rid of this hymnal published in the early 80's. It is available on amazon. You want either Glory and Praise volume 1 or Glory and Praise Comprehensive. There were three volumes of the hymnal published.

I know it -- it is often found in modern Catholic Mass song books. It's not a very old song, probably thirty years -- meditative but folky. Maybe, since this is a special occasion, the organist or music group at her parish or your own would let you borrow this book, and help you rehearse? It's a lovely and not too tough song.

It's by Carey Landry, who's quite famous. You can see the words at http://www.prisontalk.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-133517.html . You can order it on CD at http://www.pilgrimmusic.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=173, on his "Gentle Sounds" CD. You might ask the parish music people, or even your aunt or her fellow nuns, if they have a copy.

Catholics have been singing that song since the 80's. You should check out your local parish hymnal, not the stodgy old one, the paperback. It's a pretty simple melody. (The "O" in "only" is the high note.)
