What you want is very easy to achieve - this answer is kind of long but I added tips about diet and what exercises would be ideal, etc.. About 3-5 days a week for a half hour or more you will want to do any cardio to burn fat and then any exercise like :sit-ups, crunches pushups, leg lifts, kickboxing, lunges & squats - are all those will help tighten the muscles underneath. I would focus on leg lifts and crunches - even some pushups. Do sets of 20 - 2 or 3 sets for each exercise that you do. Make sure you stretch before and after every workout - cardio and exercises and for cardio do a 5 min warm up and then at the end a 5 minute cool down which can just be walking at a normal pace.

Good cardio is any of these : jogging, running, walking, bike, stairs, jumping rope, kickboxing (TAEBO) - anything that makes your heart rate increase and makes you sweat will work to burn extra fat. It does not matter if you did 1,000 crunches a day - in order to see the results of the crunches, you need to decrease the fat on top - so doing cardio and exercises(cardio every other day maybe and exercises on the days in between) will give you the results you want.

If you add some strength training - some weights - not to bulk up but just to tone - you would burn even more calories as the more muscle we gain, the more calories we burn.

Perhaps you can join a gym for a month as a guest on a trial membership -most gyms offer this for free and may even give you a personal training session which you can negotiate if you were to go in to join/free trial.

Stress can release extra cortisol in our bodies which increases belly fat - or it could just be genetics...not sure of your age but our metabolism decreases every 10 years.. 20s, 30s, and 40s it drops so we need to do more as time goes on to get the same results.

In addition - keeping a balanced diet to increase energy and metabolism which will burn extra calories will help - idea is to burn more calories then you are eating.

Try to drink 8 glasses of water a day(ice water burns the most calories cause your body has to work to "heat" it up to body temp. - true), limit salt and caffeine, balanced diet - 4 to 5 small meals a day to increase energy as well as metabolism - veggies, fruits and lean protein (chicken, turkey, lean meat, fish, beans, legumes, etc)

Tae-bo (billy blanks) is the best workout - you would lose weight and tighten abs in no time at all -2 months or less.. incredible workout - DVDs/tapes are sold online or in sporting goods stores.. maybe you can rent one at a video store too.

Make it fun though or it won't last - good luck! :)

You should do cardio first;cardio:jogging, running and jump roping, etc.Cardio will burn the fat but your stomach mass will stay the same.If you do crunches your stomach mass will enlarge but the fat around it(the roll) will be the same,so you'll look even bigger in your abdominal area. You won't be able to see the muscle(due to the thick layer of fat on top that blocks it),but that's besides the point.I think if you tone up only your legs and arms and only do a few crunches is awesome because TOO much crunches for an abdominal weight-gainer is not really good. You should join a gym or ask for guidance around the internet, men fitness magazines,or God of course. It's up to you;just believe in yourself...

Cut carbs. Hopefully this will help. Running is good and be carefully with the way you do crunches or sit ups. If you do them wrong you could end up with destended belly. It'll look like your pregnant even tho you have a 6 pack.

i assume that u are experiencing this because u are entering ur... u know.. mid life crisis?? (don't get offended!) i experience this as well.. but we gotta fight for it!

here are some helpful tips:
*drink green tea in the morning... green tea helps u get rid of body fat and it has caffeine so don't drink it at night or u won't sleep.. sleep is also important factor
*don't eat oily food and fast food... u know.. the greasy chinese food, mcdonalds, etc.. they are BAD
*do cardio.. to burn the fat.. if u want to weight train, it's fine.. but it doesn't "burn" as much fat as cardio.. but build muscles
*sit ups and crunches... they do help.. not alot.. doesn't hurt to do em

but u know what i think it is... is ur stomach get REALLY big if u inhale u breath? then that means that u eat too much on daily basis.. ur stomach got enlarged.. so eat little by little rather than BIG meals three times a day

ehh.. i hope that helps

don't drink water or any fluids while you eating ... u have to drink two glass of water the moment you wake up (i know its hard).. and if you're eating and u feel like you want to drink .u should wait an hour so u can drink. also stop eating at all before u go bed by 3 hours (try it ..it works).

On Yahoo!Answers I find the same questions being asked repeatedly. A couple of common question amounts to "How do I lose weight," or more specifically, "How do I lose abdominal fat?" I have gotten very positive responses from my answers when I paused to reply (and now beginning to get "It works!" emails that are very gratifying. I like helping people)... so have recently decided to put a good solid answer on my Yahoo!360 Blog (September 10) that I can point people to. These are my thoughts as a physician and athlete.

Don't target losing more than about 2 lbs per week. If you try to lose faster, your body will go into "starvation mode" and get very stingy about burning calories while at the same time very efficient about storing any calories that you do provide. And it will make you feel awful.

There is no site specific way of losing fat... the old myth about working your abs to burn belly fat isn't true. To get rid of love handles, you need to lose overall fat. That happens with exercise and watching your diet. More on that below.

The most effective way to lose fat is aerobic exercise in the "moderate" fat-burning range, ideally first thing in the morning before you eat. When you wake your body is ready to burn fat and your levels of growth hormone are highest at that time. Later in the day it can take up to 30 minutes just to put your body into a fat-burning mode.

Another overlooked way to burn fat is by lifting weights. Skeletal muscle has very high caloric needs... almost twice that of adipose (fat) tissue. Put on a little muscle and you will burn calories all day even at rest. Be aware that skeletal muscle weighs more, so with this approach you may see your weight increasing while your body fat is melting away. Not realizing this often stresses folks who think they should be losing weight as a measure of fitness. Forget the scale, look in the mirror and you will be happy.

To lose a pound of fat, you need to eliminate about 3500 calories. You can do this by burning more with exercise or by modifying your diet to reduce intake. If you do a Google search on say, "swimming calories" you will quickly find a website with tables of calories burned for a given exercise. You can use such lists to estimate how many calories you are burning up with your routine.

For diet, keep a diary for a couple of weeks counting calories, grams of protein, and grams of fat intake. It is easy with online sources of nutritional information (type the name of the food and calories into the Google search engine) and packaging labels. That will let you quickly figure out where the fat is coming from in your diet.

Fat gives you 9 calories per gram. So take the number of grams of fat, multiply by 9, then calculate what percentage the fat calories are of your total daily calories. Restricting the calories from fat to about 20% of your total intake is ideal for a maintenance diet... that isn't overly restrictive. Of note, you need some fat in your diet. For instance, the body uses fat to produce hormones. Once you have a picture of how to modify your diet, you can drop the diary and just go back to it occasionally if you are wanting to tweek things further.

There is a subset of questions that goes further and asks about "How to get a six-pack?" The answer is the same. Six-packs are 20% abdominal exercise and 80% diet. There is one caveat... abdominal muscles will form in the position that you work them, so be certain to pull them tightly toward your spine while doing crunches, etc. Also, during most lifting, the "core is active" which means that you should be stabilizing with contracted abs then too. Fail to do this and the abs will form, but bulging outward and the result is not attractive.

If you are trying to build muscle as a way to lose fat, then you may need to increase total calories and specifically your protein intake. I target about 0.8 g of protein per pound of body weight each day when actively building. That is far more protein than most people need in their diets.

Aloha
