It sounds like you may have a yeast infection in your mouth, it is commonly referred to as "thrush". The good news is, it is fairly easy to fix. You have two choices, you can contact your doctor who will prescribe an antibiotic mouthwash-which will cure it very quickly, or you can talk to your local pharmacist who can recommend an oral cleansing solution. It will work just as well but takes a bit longer to work. A yeast infection is typically something caused by a chemical imbalance. There is no absolute way to prevent it from coming back, but it is fairly easy to get rid of with the correct maintanance. Your best bet is address the issue quicker rather than later, as it will spread and become worse. Good Luck

Probably thrush. If you've recently been on any antibiotics, they are most likely the culprits. The reason is, that antibiotics wipe out bad and good bacteria & they upset the natural bacterial flora of the gut. That needs to be replaced with lactobacillus acidophilus bacteria. You can buy it in the form of lactinex or other types. BUT you may need an anti-fungal...be careful with them tho, they're nasty, can cause liver damage and never drink booze with them. If you have impaired immunity you can also get thrush from that. Thrush is a yeast overgrowth, that also proliferates in the gut, so you'd be wise to hit the docs for a good look-see. Good luck!
P.S. If you've been partying a lot and/or are run down, the thrush can get rolling too. You might find that catching up on sleep & extra careful dental hygeine & good food will do the trick.

Its an over growth of yeast. It's not an infection but yogurt will help. People often get it when they are on Antibiotics. If you have taken any antibiotics in the past six months than that can be what its from. Although there are other reasons why you get it as well. The best thing to do is go to your local health food store and get some Acidophilus. It can be kinda expensive, like all herbal supplements, but it will make it go away. It always best to take Acidophilus when ever your on antibiotics. Oh and you'll find it in the refrigerated section of the store, most acidophilus has to be refrigerated because they are live organisms.

I'm a dentist.

It could be a fungal infection (i.e. Candida albicans), but it could also be food debris. How long does it take for it to come back, and are there any symptoms associated with it?

Are you on any medications? Any changes to your health history? Uncontrolled diabetes, or other conditions that may cause immune compromise?

One easy way to eliminate oral fungal infections is for you to eat yogurt. The bacteria in yogurt help to curb the candida population in your mouth.

It's basically gunk. Digested food particles, cellular debris, mucous, you name it. Some people naturally produce more of it than others.

Get ahold of a good oral rinse with chlorine dioxide and use it regularly. That should eliminate the problem, although scraping is also a good idea.

Sometime an upset stomach can cause it. But brushing your tongue when you brush your teeth, using a peroxide mouthwash, AND eating yogurt should help. If it doesn't, you should see a doctor.

You are not eating properly or taking vitamins. The white is caused by lack of vitamins and/or minerals in your diet.
