I've been there on vacation. Wow people are really nice instead of around the coast (From CT) The houses are gorgeous too. I suggest you get there ! But NYC is hot too ! I love that place !

Charlotte is a busy city and there are only a few main roads getting there from any direction. It will be unlike anything you have ever seen before. Traffic comes to a stop (both directions) on the expressways because the police had someone pulled over & EVERYONE has to stop to look. The clerks in stores are slow to check out. The job market is somewhat tight but there are quite a few jobs providing you have the skills needed. Most schools are pretty good by Southern standards. It is an interesting city with many things to do & see, getting used to the way of life there takes some patience. I lived there for a few years & moved back to my Northern home state.
There are the usual stores & restaurants that you find in all major cities & there is bus & taxi service available. Housing is expensive in some areas of the city, just as it is about everywhere else. The Discovery Place is a neat science building for kids to explore.

Charlotte has grown quite a bit in the last 20-30 years, offering all the same traffic, congestion, and overcrowding as NYC, but the schools are worse. The summers make NYC seems like Alaska. Basically, all the same as NYC, without the prestige and restaurant selection.

On the weekends, rather than escaping to Connecticut or the Hamptons, get in the car and check out the surrounding countryside. If you need some idea of what it's like, go rent "Deliverance".

It's a real long haul to the beach.

On the plus side, taxes are lower.

Hi NYC guy,

We moved to South Charlotte from NY in 1998 with our two sons, and eight years (and one daughter) later we now live just over the border into Union County and are happy to call it home. We have been very happy here over the past eight years.

My husband is also in the financial service industry, and he was able to get a job very quickly -- but of course, that was eight years ago. I have heard that it is more difficult to get jobs right away, but then again I am working with some people who were able to do just that. I have the name of the headhunter my husband used when we moved, and I would be happy to send that on to you.

As far as a relocation packet is concerned, I can send you one at no charge, since I am a realtor here. Just shoot me an e-mail and we can "talk".

Take care, and let me know if I can help.

Robin

OK , I live about an hour from there in Winston Salem. I just moved here from living in FL my whole life. I will tell you that as far as the whether and the nature of this area...I am in love. I dont know anything about the work situation, tho. I know that you will probably want to live outside the city as I drove through and it seemed very industrial and dirty...as most cities would seem I guess. I dont know. I know my son loves his kindergarten and I like it too.

I am not really sure how you would go about researching jobs in that area. Maybe like Charlotte, NC chamber of commerce online search and get a pamphlet or welcome pack sent to you... I got one for this area and it had all kinds of info on Winston. If I can get any more info I will email it to ya.

yes, Wachovia, Bank of America and several small community banks are headquartered here. But the last 18 months or so more bank tech jobs seem to be going offshore than being posted in the area. That said, I don't what your banking specialty is; there are definite opportunities in the secondary financial service industries, especially in auditing and consulting.

I was about to say some very negative stuff, but all I will say is I moved south and found new reasons to love NY,NJ. You are not me so good luck, but I'll stay in the best place in America, and I have been to 46 states, lived in 4.
