Read the Bill Dedman on MSNBC today. Very educational treatment of a very heartbreaking subject.

In the grand scheme of things, young children are still better off today than every generation that came before them.
- The mortality rate has declined every year with the exceptions of the time during WW1 and WW2.
- Children do not have to worry about dying from polio or influenza.
- They don't have to worry about hegemonic racism in the US.
The fact of the matter is that these shootings occurred in pre-dominantly white schools which is why there is all the publicity. When a shooting occurred at the high school on the Red Lake Reservation in 2005, the only people who cared were Native Americans and people from other countries. You have to love the media, they sure know how to rake in those advertising dollars.
To finish, murders anywhere is a fact of life. Although I'm not religious, for those that are, it started with Cain and Able and will continue until the end of time.

It all seems crazy and very frightening. But, every generation says that about the next one. It always seems that things are getting worse. Every generation has it's hard lessons to deal with and learn from. The only thing we can do is improve ourselves and have the best life we can.
I have children and send them to school everyday. My husband and I picked the best school we could (can't afford private) and I am there volunteering and keeping up with what's going on. I can't totally protect my children, I do the best I can.

In my junior and senior years, there were bomb threats and an uncovered plan for a school shooting. I really think that too many kids have access to guns now, and most of them aren't being taught how to properly cope with problems. Plus, kids now are alot meaner than they were 50 years ago. That's being passed down from parents, though.

Thats kind of scary
what kind of world are we raising our children in?
some of these were older men though werent they so you never know what kind of weirdos are out there.
the question is why do they go out and hurt other people instead of getting serious help.
