Caffeine is legal stimulant, so is freely available for everyone. But National Geographic did publish a magazine last year I think showing the real effect it has on the brain. Check it out online. At least it is safer than energy boosting drinks.

Don't start if you can help it. It is just like smoking. It is very addictive and not good for you. Shortly after drinking caffeine you will be dependent on it to keep you going. You will not be able to get going every day without some in your system- then you will drink more calories than your body can burn off and you will gain weight from drinking soda all the time because it is convenient.
If you can help it try to energize yourself with real food and drink and let your parents know you need more sleep and that it is important to you. Caffeine will stunt your growth- so if you want to be a 6 foot model you will need to take that into account before getting addicted to caffeine.
Believe me if you don't start something addictive you can always stop. Otherwise you are in the power of the addiction until you try to quit and you may not be able to. It's you body you have the right to chose not to destroy it. Also the sugar in pop over time will rot your teeth. May take a decade or two but why would you want to look forward to that?

There is a balance to everything - if you have a cup once in a while, no big deal. My daughter is 12 and loves coffee. I don't mind if she drinks it occasionally - all things in moderation. If she were drinking it to stay up to do homework, no! That is when it becomes abuse. Get your sleep and by the way - you stated, "should you take it?" That right there says you are "using" it and not merely "enjoying" it. No - you're off the caffeine. sorry.

Well, I drink coffee (ice) I'm 13, But yes it kinda does get addictin.. I love it ! 6 hours is actually the average of sleepin. Drink it when you need it, But I actually use Hotchocolate instead it warmths my stomach & that keeps me awake especially on long stupid essays for school. You can have it but it will mess up your growth (since I'm xtremeee shortyy) & it makes your teeth yellow so if you really need it drink it when needed like.. once a week or better yet not at all ;] wait till you get older !

Ask her if she'd rather you inject the coffee. She should be glad you're wanting coffee and not street drugs. God, parents are stupid today. They read something in a book or magazine and all of a sudden, it's truth.
Just drink it when she's not looking. You're 14, not 4.
For the record, I'm nearly 30 years old and I feel this way.

obviously you COUD drink it.. the question is SHOULD you drink it..?
well. in order to make ANY choices... u need to sacrifice.. and the answer to this question differs from different ppl..
the sacrifice u make to drink coffee.. is your health and addiction
and the sacrifice not to drink coffee is your grade and lack of sleep..
if you look at the sacrifices u make.. i say don't drink it..
itz probably because u procrastinate and do things at the last minute.. maybe plan things ahead of time and u can get good grade and more sleep.
ur health is very important kiddo.. u don;t want to mess with it.. u only have one body and one life to live.. so treat ur body well.

when I was your age, I couldn't get coffee. so my drug of choice was pepsi. I'd rather my kid drink coffee than pepsi! You will get addicted to it, that's a fact. But it's the caffene and sugar that gets you, so...?
