I must not be making myself clear enough. I live in the south and the dressing I'm referring to is made with a cornbread base.

I love Stove top, too, but a Holiday meal requires homeade. There are many ways to make it. I buy the cheapest plain croutons I can find. I boil the giblets of the turkey and a few back and rib pieces of chicken I save from when I fry a chicken. (Nobody likes the back or rib in my family). In a sautee pan, I melt one stick of butter, add a cup of chopped celery, a cup of chopped onion, a clove of garlic minced, and the meat from the giblets and chicken. When the veggies are sweating, I dump the pan into the croutons. Then add a teaspoon of poultry seasoning (A mixture of sage, thyme, and rosemary), salt and pepper to taste, and the broth you boiled the meat in. If there isn't enough broth to make the stuffing the consistency you like, add some canned chicken broth. Taste the stuffing to see if you like the flavor. Add more poultry seasoning or salt and pepper if necessary. Bake in a baking dish at 350 covered for a half an hour, then uncover and bake for about ten to fifteen minutes. Yummy.

I take a fresh loaf of Italian bread and slice it into approx 1/2 inch cubes (or however big you want the piece to be... I toast it in the oven until brown and firm. While doing this, I take a 1/2 stick of butter and melt it in a sauce pan. I add dried oregano, basil, sea salt & pepper. I take the bread crumbs out of the oven and mix it all together in a large bowl... OR YOU CAN JUST BUY a bag of bread crumbs (lol, I'm a glutton for punishment)

I mince 2 apples, dice one large Spanish onion and saute 1lb of sweet or sage sausage. Add the onion and apple to the sausage and cook until the onion is translucent.

I then mix the sausage mixture and breadcrumbs together, grease and all... you can either leave it on the stove or stuff the bird with it.

Stove top stuffing!!!....you can add stuff to it if you want to, while your boiling the water, you can add more onions, celery, cooked sausage, or cooked giblets, etc...So much other stuff to prepare, peel, boil, whip, bake, and clean up....Love Stove Top!!!....You can buy extra in case an unexpected guest shows up, or if everyone eats it all, you'll have some for leftovers the next day, where you can add turkey to it and bake it in the oven for a few....Mmmmmmm.....
