i was jokingly told this the other day- "cry me a river, build a freaking bridge, and get over it" i think this relates to your question, it put it into perspective for me!

Like if you go to a bridge and you can see the water passing by. That's how you are supposed to look at things... like water passing under that bridge.... you can't stop it, you can't change it. Just let it be.

If i'm not mistaken, it has the same meaning of "Sweeping your problems under the rug". Your above your problems and continuing with your life and not looking back.

It means a past occurence, perhaps something unfortunate, that can't be undone or fixed, so you just move on.
