If there is more than one architect on a particular project, the architect of record is the architect actually liable for the project as far as code stipulations go. The architect of record also puts their seal and signature on the final construction documents while the design architect may have just done a little design work on the project, but the AOR is also responsible for the design architects designs as well as tehir own in the final project.

I assume you know what a design architect does....
An Architect of Record ensures that all laws, ordinances, codes or regulations governing the design and construction of the project are adhered to.
You usually find one only at rather large projects.
