Yes. I'd recommend:
_Roman and European Mythologies_, compiled by Yves Bonnefoy and translated by Wendy Doniger ISBN 0-226-06455-7, University of Chicago Press;

_A History of Pagan Europe_, by Prudence Jones & Nigel Pennick ISBN 0-7607-1210-7

These are more descriptive. It's worthwhile to learn something of the ancient gods to see where your heart is most drawn.

People in ancient times did not identify themselves as members of "the pagan religion" or generally even think in terms of rigid labels. They recognized a universe in which many gods, known and unknown, play a role. If one found a particular deity did not answer the needs at hand, there was nothing "wrong" in turning to another. One size did not fit all needs then, and surprise, it's no less true today.

For those who don't know, a polytheistic religion recognizes more than one god or goddess figure. Wicca/paganism is polytheistic as is Hinduism, and surely plenty of others too. You should probably first look up polytheism on the web and from there link to various sites that give info on different religions that fit that description. http://paganwiccan.about.com/ is only one of many sites with some good basic info on wicca. So is witchvox.com. Blessed be in your studies.

No.

Hinduism isn't polytheistic - I'm not Hindu.

Hinduism is similar to Christianity's idea of the Holy Triune.

generally, about 90% of the various pagan beliefs are polytheistic. And there are oodles of books out there. I wold suggest narrowing down what you're looking for. then researching from there.

Christianity is polytheistic. There is God, Jesus, and yes, the Devil. Four if you practice Catholicism (Trinity + Devil)
