O.K., I want to put a picture for a background in my word file. So I go to format>background>fill effects>picture>select picture then I choose the picture and select OK, then it puts in as the background but the formating is all screwed up, then i checked what the print preview looked like, it is the same as before I put the background. So my question, how do I insert a picture from a file as a background in Word without messing up the formating and one that will print?

By default, Microsoft Word does not print document backgrounds that you create by using the Background command on the Format menu. If you want to print document backgrounds, you can change this setting. To do so, click Options on the Tools menu. On the Print tab, select the Background colors and images check box.

Add a background color or texture to a Web page, online document, or e-mail message

On the Format menu, point to Background.
Do one of the following:
Click the color you want.

Click More Colors to see additional color choices.

Click Fill Effects to change or add special effects, such as gradients (gradient: A gradual progression of colors and shades, usually from one color to another color, or from one shade to another shade of the same color.), textures, or patterns.

one way is to go to insert picture from file whatever background you want then right click on the picture, ( don't worry that you're formatting messed up a little it will return the way it was after the next procedure ) show picture toolbar and click on send behind text tab ( which can be located at the icon that looks like a dog or something ).
this way you'll have flexibility over your background image and will allow you to use more than one image as background. printable it is

Yes it is there in Word. Go to Insert, Symbols, then click the "Special Characters tab. It is listed as Trademark, along with Registered, Copyright etc. The shortcut is Alt+Ctrl+T
