The current belief is that some people have a genetic predisposition to alcholism.

I'm skeptical of the new reports saying alcoholism can be inherited genetically. I say that these people are copying their parent's behavior if anything. I am skeptical of medical reports anyway, because of personal reasons, but especially when it comes to alcohol. That is because of various reports in the past on alcohol. The reports on Absinthe for instance used bad research, and the reports that were used to classify alcoholism as a disease (which are vastly outnumbered by the reports stating alcoholism isn't a disease) are not scientifically sound. That being said, I'm skeptical about this, but cannot say for certain what I believe yet because I haven't researched this one enough yet.

No, alcoholism is not inherited, that's a convenient cop out for an alcoholic.
The genetic PREDISPOSITION to alcoholism is real, but it doesn't always happen depending on the individual.
My father is an alcoholic and his father was an alcoholic but I hardly drink; I have a psychiatric disorder that my psychiatrist explained is related genetically to the genetic predisposition to alcoholism.
My father and grandfather just made their mental health 10 times worse when they took up drinking in college and became alcoholics.

Some studies say that it can be inherited. I agree that some people have it in there genes to be an alcoholic. Some also say that gambling can be a genetic defect. My advice is to stay away from both and that way you don't have to find out if it is in your genes!

I believe that researchers have found a gene that indicates alcoholism can be inherited. Plus, there is the fact that children may see their parents drink to excess, leading to a greater chance for them to do it as well.

From a personal viewpoint, I must say that the predisposition toward alcoholism is genetic and I, for one, inherited the gene. As I used to say, I have the proof -180 proof....

the only way alcohol can be inherited is if someone leaves you some in their will. As far as alcoholism goes, if it runs in your family, then watch out. I don't know if there is a certain gene that causes it, but something does.

I believe it depends on the person, alot of people grew up around alcoholics and feel it's okay to be a drunk all the time, some people also grew up around alcoholics and the thought of being drunk disgust them.

Depends on the person. Jesus made wine. He did'nt become an alcoholic. I personally feel if Jesus can make wine and not become an alcoholic, we can be social and also know our limits.

Absolutely NOT!!!
Both my mother and father were alcoholics. My dad died from a rotten liver, my mom killed herself in a drunken purge.
My sister and I don't drink. Maybe it is because my parents did it and lost so much, I don't know. But alcoholism is not inherited.
Lifestyles of your parents, can be copied however.
