My house overlooks beautiful countryside and so the builder put in tons of windows. The problem with that is there is not much wall space so I wanted to know if it is ok to decorate high. Anything I hang will be hung above the windows. I have high cathedral ceilings 9 or 10 ft and the windows are probably 6 1/2 - 7 ft high

You could try a nice wallpaper border. It would give a nice look, but not be overdone. Pictures or other objects would not be seen or appreciated very well. Or you could try hanging plants.

Of course you can decorate above the windows and doors! If you ask around, you'll find that most people think a room looks unfinished if it has 10' ceilings, but there's nothing above the windows.

Those are prime spots for decorating your rooms. You can put shelves there and merchandise them to compliment your room, or use art. It's also a great place to display collections. One of the neatest tricks I've seen used one giant piece of art to visually dominate the space above windows like you've described.

Good luck.

I have alot of windows too. My solution was to put a shelf over each one and put plants on them. Any plant that cascades down is beautiful and adds a natural elegance to the room. You can also use artificial plants if you feel it would be hard to water real ones. Another idea is to use the space to display your collections, or just about anything you enjoy looking at but don't particularly want to clean all the time.

I have a large sliding glass door on my wall because my house overlooks the pacific ocean. I wanted to make my room hawaiian themed since my mom is from Oahu so i put a bunch of small tiki masks i got from Kmart up there. It looks really good.

LUCKY YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Of course you can hang above windows. Just check out some decorating magazines, if you don't believe me.

Another great thing to do around windows and doors (and they are great space savers) is to build shelving up, above and around... enjoy the view!

I think it would be better to put in some molding (stained not painted) and then put in matching wooden slatted blinds in the windows...this will make it look not so much overdone

I don't think that anything you put up there could look balanced or compete
with the scenery. Less is more.
