We can clap, say her name loudly, waive our hands in front of her face and she does not respond for several seconds. It is almost eery. I am concerned that there could be a medical or developmental issue. She does this for no apparant reason and sometimes several times a day.

The childs parents need to call the doctor and get her in immediatly. Explain the situation to them. Although this is signs and symptoms of a seizure disorder it can also be something minor as well. Chances are the pediatrician will order a series of test on the child none of which are painful except for the blood test and those have to be done anyway. When my daughter did this they checked her hearing, vision, and did a sleep deprived eeg on her, hers turned out to be epilepsy and medication stopped it, after she goes 4 years seizure free they will slowly wean her off meds and we are at year three!!!!!! My son also does the very same thing and after all the test and him starting school it was decided he has a form of add and when he does this he is actually just so deep in daydreams that he tunes the rest of the world out. It could be nothing or it could be something major but it needs to be checked asap and don't let the doctor brush it off as a paranoid parent.

You should consult with her pediatrician this she MIGHT be having seizures. I know how you feel when my daughter was about 6-7 months old she would do the same thing and i spoke with her doctor and they ordered and EKG it checks the brain waves in her head and she was fine. The doctors thought i was crazy until she did that once when in the doctors and they then realized that she would do that when she urinated and it made her feel uncomfortable so they tested her for Urinary Infection and that is what it was..

She definately needs to see her doctor & they will probably do an EEG on her. It could be a seizure - my son was doing this at preschool and we had an EEG done to rule out seizures. He was not having seizures and we never did really figure out what was going on - it just sort of stopped as quickly as it started. Good luck to you!

Hi, It is possible that your grandaughter is having seizures. I would reccomend that she be seen by her pediatrician who may send her for an EEG or a neurology consult. At least you will have peace of mind as if she doesn't have them great! I fshe does they can be treated! Good luck!

It sounds like she may be experiencing seizures.
you should take her to a paediatrician as soon as possible and explain exactly what you are witnessing.
if you are not sure about making an appointment, at least call a service like nurses 24/7 or something like that.

Before you rush her to the dr, check to see if she is peeing during those times. I've been around kids who were just very focused on peeing. :) If not, follow everyone else's advice and make an appt with her dr.

I will not elaborate on possible causes here but there are many possibilities. At 2yrs old normally she should respond to said stimulus so please consult a Dr. about this ASAP! Hopefully this is something minor, but there is certainly a reason for concern and you should act on it immediately! Please take her to the Dr. to be sure.

Please call your granddaughter's pediatrician immediately. She is having absence seizures. Having one type of seizure typically means that she may have other types, such as Grand mal, or drop seizures. Medication may help her so she doesn't just
"disappear" any longer. Good luck!
